HDTV / 40"+ / 1080p / £1200

I was wondering if someone could help me find an HDTV with the stuff mentioned above.

I posted this in Loungin' but didn't really get much of an answer. So I hope you fellows can halp.

This is the one I'm considering:

Looks good but if you plan on playing games with it then Plasma may not be the best idea.

Plama TVs run hotter than LCDs, and they used to have burn in problems. I don't know if that was ever fixed.

re: HDTV / 40"+ / 1080p / £1200

Hmm...Well, you're getting a larger screen there, but it's 720p resolution instead of 1080p. Because it's an LCD, it will also definitely have lower contrast and if it isn't 120Hz you may still have a few motion blur (seriously, I'm not sure you could notice it if you weren't looking for it) during fast paced games.

Yes, Plasmas run hotter and are still somewhat susceptible to image burn, but they're much more reliable now than they've ever been and will last just as long as an LCD. One thing to consider is where you're placing the TV. If it's going to be in a room with a lot of potential glare and open windows, I would definitely go for the LCD. If you're putting it in say...an underground theater room or something like that, then the Plasma is probably the way to go.

Actually sNap if you look again the LCD is smaller. The Plasma is actually listed as 50" not 40". And neither of them are 1080p.

Unless he has the wrong link in the first post.

My mistake, I was assuming the thread title was referring to the plasma as 40" and the LCD as 46".

That looks like a good TV for that price.

A little tip, it's usually better to buy them at stores where you can see what they look like on display, but you don't have to.

They've got a video of it here.

I know it's not as good as in store, but better than nothing.

re: HDTV / 40"+ / 1080p / £1200

Not a very informative video. And it makes the image on the TV look horrible.

Anyway, two things I would look at on any LCD are going to be contrast ratio and response time. A higher contrast ratio means you're going to have darker blacks and brighter whites. 800:1 isn't exactly great, but then again it is hardly conclusive since the campanies haven't agreed on a standard definition for the ratios.

As for the response time you are going to want something less than 8ms or 8 milliseconds. In fact 5ms or lower would be even better still. And that is one major problem I have with that ad. It doesn't tell you the response time at all.

Well I am looking for a good brand preferably Sony a 1080p LCD tv being 40-42" pref 40. It also has to have Picture in picture and cannot be any more than $2000.

A quick search warranted these results that match your specifications:

Samsung LN-T4065F 40" High Definition LCD TV

Samsung isn't a terrible quality, especially for your money, but if you search, the price range is from $1100 to $1900.
