HD TV as computr monitor

I got an 8800GTS, so uh lets say I also have a HD LCD TV which I don't btw, but if I did what would I need to use said tv as a computer monitor. The only outputs I see on my graphics card are dvi and s-video

Most HDTV's have VGA (you can get a DVI to VGA adapter for like $3), and that will work out great. Some have DVI, but its pretty rare on HDTV's. Dont use S-video, its only SD.

S-Video for a computer screen isn't worth doing.

Some HDTVs also have S-Video.
Svideo only displays at 720x480. The minimum HDTV is at 1280x720.

re: HD TV as computr monitor

All I can say is, if you do get a hdtv working as your monitor, its worth the trouble. My friend hooked up something ridiculous like a 50 inch plasma screen HDTV to his pc, xbox360 and other consoles. It is AWESOME.
Makes me ashamed of this 17 inch piece of crap I have here.

Did you enable it in your computer? You Have to go to display properties and enable the second monitor. And have the HD-TV on the right input.

re: HD TV as computr monitor

I've got my computer hooked up to my Sony XBR via my 8800GTS...

The writing is a little small in windows when the resolution is cranked up but its great for playing games. My TV has a input for TV which is far superior kwality to the S Video.

re: HD TV as computr monitor

My HTPC is hooked upto my Sony X3500 40", and it is just stunning for playing PC games. I play all my PC games at 1900x1080...all except Crysis! You can only push an 8800GT 512MB so far lol.

I have an Xbox 360 wireless controller for the PC, and use it to play all non FPS multi-platform games. It's the only reason I have not invested in a PS3/360 yet. But with GTA 4 & MGS 4 on the horizon, I will be forced to pick one up if I want to play them within the next 5 years lmao.

re: HD TV as computr monitor

HDTV's will have HDMI (1 as standard, 2 is common and 3 is just if you are flashy), Most have DVI, VGA and S-Video connections (mine has but other may not be so lucky)

You can buy HDMI to DVI cables (one end has a HDMI connector and the other end has DVI connector, again this is what I have and the quality is superb, then again I also have a HD 3850 graphics card that allows me to use my HDTV resolution for my desktop 1280 x 720 I think)

You can also buy adapters such as VGA to DVI, DVI to HDMI, HDMI to DVI and so on. Currently I have HDMI to HDMI for my PS3 and HDMI to DVI for my PC

re: HD TV as computr monitor

HDMI and DVI would be the best options IMO, and pretty much as fact. If it is an option, use one of those.

Like Shadowj, I have my PS3 hooked up to my HDTV. I use my PS3 browser to get on the internet, since my old computer (at my mom's, I'm at my dad's now) is utter crap.
