Screen internally broken

I don't quite know how to describe the damage but I've got a TV from a friend for free but all it needs is fixing. It's a nice 32" HD Samsung. Plasma I believe. I've heard the screens burn easier but I don't think that's what this is as he said this was caused from dropping it.

Anyway, there's no actual damage to the screen itself, just the image it shows. So when it is turned off, it's impossible to tell anything is wrong. However, when it's turned on, in bottom left corner of the screen [quite big too] there's just this blue thing making a funny shape. It's almost as if it's a vizualization you would see on Windows Media Player. Like when your phone has just been dropped in water and the screen messes up. Basically, what I would like to know is whether it is possible to get fixed, firstly and a price range for how much it's going to set me back. I know it's going to vary but a price range should hopefully not be too hard to give. I'm from the UK but if you're from America, just give it in dollars and I'll halve it and add some more as it'll no doubt be more expensive

re: Screen internally broken

If he dropped it, and it now has the weird pixelated colors in the conner, then its likely that the LCD is broken. If you could take a picture of it, it will be easier to tell.

Since the LCD is cracked, the whole LCD screen will have to be replaced. The only problem is the cost of sending it in to get it fixed (shipping, parts, labor, shipping it back) will most likely cost more then getting a new HDTV would.

re: Screen internally broken

So I couldn't get this done at a TV repair shop ? I have a shop near my school which fix televisions and computers. I think I'll take a picture tomorrow. post it here and show the people at the shop to see if they can tell me what my best option would be.

LCD's work a whole lot differently then CRT's. And if the LCD is cracked, there is no way you can fix it, the only way is to get the internal LCD replaced, which will be pretty expensive. You cant just grab an LCD out of a random TV and stick it in, you have to special order it from the company.

He said it's a plasma, not an LCD.>_> A plasma screen is totally different from an LCD.

I dont think they even make 32" plasma TV's. The smallest plasma's I've seen are 42 inches.

re: Screen internally broken

From the sound of it, the TV is an LCD, on top of that the screen is either broken (you should notice a defined slice in the lcd finish) or there's interior damage to the LCD connection near the backlight on it. Either way it's going to be costly, you can try to cut a corner by looking up the panel on ebay to see if someone is even selling one. Short of that you need to obtain a new one from the producer.

If it looks anything like this:

Then it's done for.
