1080HD |
|
I've been looking at buying a new HD TV, but the one I've been looking at says it doesn't support 1080HD. So does that mean that it will only support 720p, and not do 1080i or 1080p? -------------------

what brand/model/size is the TV? If it dosnt support 1080, then I think that means it will only display a picture at 720i/p. ------------------- Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.

Pixel resolution: 1366x768. That means it will only display in 720i/p. I'm not sure why it has an X next to 1080HD, I think that just means it wont display at 1080. Most TV's that I've seen that are 720i/p will accept a 1080 signal, then downgrade it to 720 though. Most 32" TV's are 720. ------------------- Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.

Don't buy it from Comet, its a rip off, they charge way more than online retailers. Get this instead, its cheaper and supports up to 1080i (I know as this is the same TV I have). I got it for £480 and now its even cheaper, trust me, its a great buy, I use it for PS3 and it looks fantastic. ------------------- ![]()

Very few 32 inch LCD televisions are 1080p, and you'd do well to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on such a small screen - if you were getting a 50 inch or bigger TV then it would be beneficial for it to be able to display 1080p and the difference between 720p and 1080p would be noticeable. But at the size you are buying 720p is more than good enough, although I agree with Sphinx that you should avoid Comet, there are plenty other retailers both online and in the high street that have better prices and warranty deals. ------------------- PSN - C_R_99

re: 1080HD |
quote The SlayerWell sort of. Many HDTVs will emulate 1080i. Even if they can't in fact do a true 1080i. You will notice this at times because the TV will scale the image strangely while it adjusts. It sort of resizes the image even though I'm pretty sure I don't actually gain any pixels. Of course an LCD can't by design can't output a true 1080i image because LCDs don't actually interlace images on screen. So what you really get is a slower refresh rate at 1080i. Though not particularly noticable. Really 1080i is kind of pointless on a 32" LCD for so many reasons. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum
