Connecting my 360 to my spare computer moniter. |
|
I want to connect my 360 to display through a spare computer monitor. The monitor is a 17 inch 1280 x 1024, with both DVI and VGA inputs. What cables are available for me to use, and how should I handle sound, assuming I can get my hands on some spare stereo equipment.

I use the xbox 360 VGA cable. Its just a regular video cable that has a Male VGA end (mine came with a VGA female-female adapter incase your monitor already has a VGA cable), and it has a left/right audio cable. ------------------- Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.

VGA cord is your best bet since that is the only cord that supports 1280x1024 and several other resolutions. -------------------

Thanks for the advice. I ran out, and the Microsoft brand VGA cable works great. However, I am without a spear set of speakers and therefore without sound unless I give up using my computer's speakers for the console. Slayer, you spoke about plugging the adapted sound output into your sound card, I'll try that.

I have an Audio In port on my sound card (mine is blue colored) and I just plugged it into that using the adapter. I then had to go into my sound settings and adjust the audio-in volume to max, I think it was set to mute by default, or something like 50%. As long as the computer is turned on, the audio comes through just fine. ------------------- Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.
