surround sound

Hey,

Ive just purchased a new pc and it came with a 5 speaker hd sourround sound thing.
But i can only get 2 speakers to work because there is not enough holes to put all the cables in.
So im guessing you need to buy some sort of adapter that you can put in one hole and it will have like 5 holes on the adapter.
But basicly i cant find one and dont know whats its called.
So can somone tell me what it is i need is called and where i can buy it.
Thanks.

re: surround sound

Are you plugging the speakers into the surround sound an there aren't enough inputs for them or is it there aren't enough inputs on the computer for the surround sound?

re: surround sound

You need to buy a surround sound card, or go in your sound drivers and make the red and blue ports speaker outputs as well, most recent computers can do this. in the tray (bottom right near your clock) there should be a icon that either looks like a Play button or some blue thing with a yellow design (well most recent comps without sound cards have this) and you can click in there and configure to computers outputs to do surround sound through the mic and line in ports.

re: surround sound

So it's the surround sound system that doesn't have enough input for the speakers, right? Do you know what the brand and model number for the surround sound is?

re: surround sound

Yeah, that's the problem right there: it's a 2.1 speaker system. In order to use five speakers it needs to be a 5.1 speaker system. There isn't anything you can do about it.

re: surround sound

Either you were shipped the wrong speaker system or someone returned it before but slipped in a 2.1 speaker system instead of a 5.1 system.

Do all the speakers look the same or are they different styles? You could have been shipped the standard PC speakers in addition to the 2.1 system. That would give you 4 speakers and a subwoofer though.

re: surround sound

Make sure that they didn't give you the wrong speakers first. If you were supposed to get a 5.1 system then tell them that you didn't get a 5.1 system.
