Your next bit of kit |
|
Shame to see the HD gaming and AV forum so quiet so I thought I'd have a go at boosting traffic a bit. I know from the last few months having gotten into home theatre and av stuff that there always seems to be more equipment to buy just to make your set up "perfect"...until yet another bit comes along. ------------------- ![]()

Haha, exciting stuff. I remember having to order all my cables, its one of those boring necessities. All in all the cables I've bought have probably come to around £40 and I'll be replacing my speaker cable soon too when I redecorate my room so I'm not sure how much it'll cost. Needless to say it's hard to get excited about cables - it's money I'd much rather spend on games or movies, or down the pub. ------------------- ![]()

I'll probably be getting and HDMI cable box next. And of course another expensive HDMI cable. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get the component cables for the video to switch over through the reciever. So right now I have the video going direct to the TV and the audio going through an optical cable to the reciever. So I have to switch the TV and the reciever, rather inconvient. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

I'm not sure where I stand on the issue of expensive HDMI cables. A lot of av enthusiasts swear by them, but the rest reject them outright as a total con. I can understand the point of getting decent speaker cables and things like that, but there seems to be a big dispute about whether the premium HDMI cables are worth the money. ------------------- ![]()

I remember somebody telling me a while back that they got a HDMI cable for £5 somewhere. Whether or not that's cheap idk I haven't looked into them, but I assume it is otherwise they wouldn't have brought it up. D: ------------------- ![]()

Oh that's cheap, you can pay upwards of £70 for HDMI cables. ------------------- ![]()

Yea, the expensive cables are really just that. Expensive. I have a $90 cable running from the PS3 to the amp and a $60 cable running from the amp to the TV. To be honest though from a consumer perspective the cheaper cables aren't all that bad. The more expensive cables are supposed to have better wiring and insulation. So you have less line noise and ultimately a cleaner picture and sound. But really I don't know if I would notice the difference. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

New kit on the list, though nothing particularly exciting unfortunately. I'm redecorating my room in a couple of weeks and will be getting a wall bracket to mount my TV, it'll work much better on the wall as it will give a wider viewing angle and will mean that I can have the cables all in one place making it less of a mess. ------------------- ![]()

Yeah I know the feeling. I've not managed to get a wallmount for my tv yet, I'm still in the process of redecorating my room which means I'm sleeping in one of the spare rooms, and all my AV stuff (besides tv and consoles) is packed away until my room is done =(. Though I have just got a Wii to add to the collection, and also just ordered some speaker stands. ------------------- ![]()

Well I still need a VGA cable, a new computer (This one shuts down by itself which is annoying as *bleep*), a next-gen console and I suppose decent speakers is another possibility. And completely off the topic of the forum, I need a fan - my room is hot as hell. ------------------- ![]()
