a few questions

1. whats the difference between 720p, 1080p and 1080i?

2. Will a PS3 look good no matter what kind of HDTV its played on?

3. if using a standard def TV (want to buy ps3 but dont have enough for an HD yet) will the ps3 still look pretty good and will blu-ray movies still look better than dvds on a stand def tv?

thanks for any help

re: a few questions

They are the differences between pixel resolutions vertically and the refresh rate. 720 is 720 pixels high roughly. 1080 is of course 1080 pixels high. The i is for interlaced and the p for progressive. Interlaced refreshs every other line so all the odds then all the evens. Progressive refreshs the entire image all at once.

Games will look very good regardless. The graphical improvements will still be there. But you won't get the benefits of the higher resolutions Which make things look sharper.

Blu-ray movies would be a waste of money on an SDTV. There is no benefit to them over DVD other than the higher resolution and that would be unavailable on an SDTV.

re: a few questions

1080 is a higher resolution than 720 (720 has less pixels compared to 1080). The i and p mean interlaced and progressive, which is how the screen refreshes. Progressive is better then interlaced.

No. The better the TV, the better it will look.

A PS3 will look shitty on a SD-TV compared to HD. Blu-ray movies will have to be down-graded to standard deff so they wont look any different then a regular DVD.

To get the most out of your PS3/HD-content you need a HD-TV.
