LCD, DLP, or Plasma?

Well I have been appointed the fun task of finding a new HD-TV for my dad when we move. My main problem now is deciding on if I should go LCD, Plasma, or DLP.

The three TV's I'm looking at now, mostly to try and compare the three are:

52" LCD Samsung for $2,000

50" DLP Samsung for $1,300

50" Plasma Samsung for $2,000

The primary use for the TV would probably be to view satellite HD and SD programing, movie watching (mostly DVD, but we may get a blu-ray player), occasional xbox gaming when I get a chance to use it, and I may make a HTPC and hook it up to it.

I've only had experience with LCD, and thats with my 22" monitor. I've heard all kinds of pros and cons for all of them, but I cant figure out which would be the better option. I've heard all kinds of things about plasma burn-in, so I'm not sure about going that route, and DLP is surprisingly cheap.

I may not even go with one of those TV's, my dad may want to opt for something smaller and cheaper, but for sake of easy comparison I went with these. If anyone has a good suggestion for a HD-TV between 42 and 52 inches, go ahead and point me to it.

re: LCD, DLP, or Plasma?

DLP isn't bad, but you need to consider the room you'll be using the set in before you come to a decision. If you get any glare in the room or direct sunlight, you definitely don't want a DLP and a Plasma may not be a good idea (the protective glass reflects light like a bitch). LCD is, overall, the best choice in my opinion but you can see that's also reflected in the price. Large LCD sets will typically have a 120Hz screen refresh rate, eliminating motion blur. However, Plasma screens have deeper colors and image burn isn't an issue like it used to be.

DLP, as you can see, is the cheapest option and really not a bad deal at all. The issue with DLP, however, is that you can't mount them on walls and their overall size (not to mention decreased viewing angles).

re: LCD, DLP, or Plasma?

Not to mention DLP is EXTREMELY fragile since it uses mirrors to project the images.
