Grandia 2 findings... |
|
First of all, I run through problems on Grandia II PC version. I want to share my findings for everyone to benefit from.
For me, the installation worked just fine from autorun. I have Windows XP Professional installed. When I launch the game, the game crashes to desktop after the game logo videos. From the other Grandia 2 forum in this Neoseeker forum, I found out that removing sorted.idx from the vms folder can get you upto the main menu section. Since I never like deleting unknown files, I renamed sorted.idx to sorted.idx.bak. I was able to get into the main menu from here. Next problem that cropped up is that starting a new game prompts users to a dialog box with garbage text. What the dialog box is actually asking from the user is CD 2. So, by inserting CD 2, I got the intro video playing. Here's where my problem is now... After the intro video, the game goes black and then, there's nothing I can do about it. I didn't hear any sounds, or maybe my speaker was simply muted or something. Anyway, I just killed the running Grandia 2 task. I'll probably try a couple of more things and get back to this board with some more findings. If anyone has more findings on my problem, it would be nice to share your info. I'm going to try installing some video codecs to see if that does anything at all. Cheers!

Thanks.
Anyway, I tried installing some video codecs and it didn't work. I still get the black screen thingy. I'll have to see what else I can find to make it work.

Its seems that it is something to do with the codecs, not sure what though. I tryed to play this game on one pc and after pressing New Game I get a message in the corner that says loading then all I get is a black screen also.
But on another pc I get the intro movie and all is well. I tryed playing them outside the game on Windows Media Player on the first PC and it says unable to load codec. However on the second PC it runs. All I can work out is that one PC has a codec that the other does not. And both PCs were using Media Player Version 9. Hope this helps.

Well, in my PC, the intro movie plays and after that is the black screen. I have no interpretation for why it happens or how to fix it.
I've gotten it to work from another computer running Linux though, using an emulator. No videos but I could care less for those, I can always play it from a media player.

just wanted to say "thanks" for letting us all know what you found out. Its a shame you haven't actually found a cure for it yet, but its a whole lot more than any other information you can find on this game.
