Put it this way, Chiro got promoted to IV without even knowing until he saw the link under his name, and I believe that's happened another time too. I think it's just that Chiro is like Neo's GTA Guru.

I think a General GTA Forum would be more successful than this. I think this GTAIV "Social Forum" is kinda pointless.

Yeah, Chiro is one lucky guy. I would kill to moderate the GTA: San Andreas forum and I know I'll never get accepted and Chiro just gets promoted without knowing why.

BRADEN, I don't see it as luck at all. I was chosen for literally every single GTA forum without ever having asked for the promotion, because I established myself as an integral part of the community and I went out of my way to help people, long before I ever became a mod. Actually, one forum I did ask for, which was Vice City for the PC, but that's another story. My point is that I never wanted to be a mod. It wasn't my "goal". All I wanted to do was to write long and detailed walkthroughs, and that was it. Honestly? I turned down the mod spot twice when El Rey first approached me about it. I felt it would hamper my ability to write walkthroughs in the forum and help people pass the missions that were on the tough side. In retrospect, I'm glad I finally accepted the co mod spot with El Rey, way back in 2002, but my point is that most people on Neoseeker want to be a mod and have absolutely no idea why they should be or even why they want to be.

I think that a lot of people see it as some kind of an online power trip and forget the fact that, first and foremost, a mod is supposed to want to help people. Anyone who says things like, "Yeah I want to help people, but I should be a mod because...blah blah blah..." is missing the point. Honestly, if you really want to help people, then do that. Write walkthroughs, give detailed information in question threads, participate in the community and all that good stuff. Who cares if you have less control buttons on your screen? You can still help. If helping is really what you want to do, then being overly concerned or envious of a mod spot is not the way to do it. I'm not singling you out, BRADEN. I am using your post as an example of a particularly pervasive attitude I have observed for many years throughout the genital Neoseeker community.

I think the other time Chiro got promoted without knowing was for GTA VCS PS2, but i could be wrong.

OMFG! That was the longest reply in relation to the quote I ever saw!

Anyway dude, I guess you're right... but you didn't have to bombard me like that.

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose, Direction and Forum Announcements

I think you're right. To BRADEN, however, I would agree with Chiro that modding a GTA forum isn't luck. Sure I wanted to do it back when I moderated VCS, but it's not loads different from being a normal member. It's pretty much the same but with a few extra buttons here and there. I like moderating on Neoseeker because I want to help out, not because "I COOL CUZ I R MOD" or anything to that effect. But I think the reason Chiro automatically gets the spots now is because he is NeoGTA.

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose and Direction

Well I want to be a mod for the reason that I simply LOVE San Andreas, (like I wanted to be portal staff because I loved H:BM) not because of the "I COOL CUZ I R MOD" thing.

I think we are straying a bit off topic...

I agree we are straying a bit, but one more word on this. If you really love the San Andreas forum and the game, then it should have nothing to do with whether or not you are a mod or a regular member. If you really care about the forum, then being there, posting, enjoying the community is the only thing you need, because the forum is still the forum no matter who is the mod there.

On topic, I think the direction of this forum is a great one. I love the idea of having our own GTA-Loungin' right here in our own backyard. It's nice to have the ability to talk about whatever we want, within reason of course, in this forum.

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose and Direction

Another thought:

I think this forum is going to fail miserably. In the CWM thread one could post things which in the forum would be considred as spam. For example:

Re: CWM Thread - "Dammit, San Andreas is giving me disk read errors again!"

A post like this in a CWM would be considered typical but creating a thread about this would be considred SPAM or pointless. So I think this forum would be taking the fun out of the traditional CWM threads.

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose, Direction and Forum Announcements

It took me a while to realize this forum was here.

Anyway I like the idea of having a Loungin'-type forum for GTA fans, that way we can chat without the threads going haywire with posts then getting it bumped down to the second page a few hours later.

And, as always, Chiroman gets the mod spot...

I think the forum won't fail, because it gives a more laid back, relaxed place for GTA fans to kick back and lounge around. Just because other GTA forums have CWM's is no reason why this forum can't work. The direction and purpose here is not to have a forum of Spam but to have a forum filled with topics that might otherwise be spam in more specific forums.

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose and Direction

I actually prefer talking in a CWM forum rather than a CWM thread, the main reason being that I can look back in a year down the line at what things were like in the board and it has a sense of history. The CWM threads have to be deleted, so the only sense of history (other than the first CWM thread which is lying on about the last page of the IV forum) is the number in the thread title. When I post in a CWM thread I don't see much point because I know it's being deleted in a few weeks, whereas in here I can talk and enjoy it more than I would in a thread.

Edit: Forum Header?

A forum header has been discussed. You can expect some form of competition in the next day or so

re: GTA Social Forum - Purpose and Direction

Shane submitted one that was very nice, but it was a little small. Also, folks please remember that this is not the GTA IV forum. The forum header for this place should be a lot more genital and less specific for one game. In fact, the header and footer may be able to stray a little bit from the normal GTA theme of specific game forums, as long as GTA is somewhere in the banner. However, this is something I think Steel, Mish and I should discuss before we make any absolute rules in this regard.
