There are some parts in games, be it a boss battle, a cut scene or a puzzle, that give you a wow factor.

Some give you a real sense of accomplishment, others just stay in your memory.

I have three that spring to mind:

Aeris death in Final Fantasy 7. What a shock that was the first time i ever saw it.

The first time you ever meet a Hunter in Resident Evil. That cutscene where it races along the path to the door you just walked through....

The moment you meet the Berserker in Gears of War. They tell you something is nearby, and you know you are gonna meet it, but it still made me jump out of my skin when it burst through the wall!

Where Kratos jumps on Kronos in God Of War. Kronos is HUGE!

Honestly, in Ocarina of Time, when Young Link takes his sword out on Ganondorf, right after you collect all the Spiritual Stones, thinking he can do something, only to be shot down, and have Ganon continue chasing Zelda.

In Spider-man 2, there's a boss battle against Mysterio and he is the Statue of Liberty.

These 2 pop in my head the fastest when I think of great gaming moments.

Starcraft Original - When Tassadar sacrifices himself to kill the Overmind.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - After you defeat Ganondorf and escape the castle, he pops up and transforms into the monstrous Ganon. This was the first Zelda game I played, so I didn't see that one coming.

Just Cause - Sky Diving. This is the game that really sold the idea of next gen to me. Going so high that you're above the weather, then falling down through the clouds into a storm is immense and brilliant. Underated game.

The end of Shadow of the Collosus when your holding on for dear life, desperately trying to avoid the 'vortex'. All in vain too.....You know you've had it but regardless, hold on tilll the very last second........Heartwarming yet bleak at the same time.

The ending of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was just pure awesomeness for me.

Bioshock

I come to a room full of trap bolts (they're electric-infused lines that if you step into them you get electrocuted). There is no way I can make it to the other side of the room without getting killed. I could have taken the easy way out and just shoot every bolt with my pistol (I had more than enough ammo)...but...

I see a Big Daddy lumbering around. He's docile unless attacked. I have a "spell" ability called "Target Dummy" that will create a virtual outline of me at any point that the enemy will attack.

Solution: I pull out my pistol and ready my Target Dummy. I shoot the Big Daddy once to anger him, then throw the Target Dummy at the far end of the room. The Big Daddy ignores me and runs after the Target Dummy through the trap bolts, clearing about 90% of them out with his body before flopping over dead. I make out with the spoils of the room and the loot from a dead Big Daddy.

That's real innovation right there. The game didn't tell me to do it, it didn't try and show me that I could have killed a Big Daddy that way. I figured it out on my own and improvised. That's sheer brilliance right there and that's why Bioshock was game of the year in 2007.

Call of Duty 4

I was playing Search and Destroy on offense. My entire team was gunned down and there two two players left on the opposing team and all I had was a bolt-action sniper rifle (the M40A1). I sprint and plant the bomb then hide behind it to wait for the enemy to show up. I see them both show up at the same time and I know they see me. I say "*bleep* it" and jump up to standing position and pull up my sights quickly, headshotting the guy in front. The bullet passes through his skull and hits his teammate, killing them both instantly and ending the match before they can fire a shot.

Gears of War

4 vs 4. I sprint to the Boomshot (grenade launcher thing) and see an enemy. I fire one round and as it sails to its target, the rest of the enemy team shows up. The boomshot kills all of them instantly, ending the match. It was silent on the score screen for a few seconds, then the leader of the enemy team just says "No way..."

Condemned 2 - The part in Black Lake Lodge when your being pursued by that sodding great bear. Talk about tense........

Gotta be corny, but the one which really sticks with me is KotOR II, right when you get to the plot twist. It definitely shocked me, and although a lot of people say they could have guessed it most never really admit to knowing about it until they get to that part.

Seeing some of those cityscapes or landscapes in games are utterly awesome, especially when you can walk and interact with them. There's been a few times where I've been walking, stopped, turned left and saw something amazing just sitting there which really stunned me.
