Gaming coming to its end? |
|
I've come to notice that almost everything (game wise) this past and upcoming year is a sequel. It seems like there's no new, original ideas coming out.
MGS4 GTA4 DMC4 SR2 SC4 FO3 Mario Kart, whatever iteration NG2 RA3 Resistance 2 GoW 3 RE5 SF4 CoD4 Sims, whatever iteration Star Wars: FU (Gears)oW 2 If it's not a sequel, it's someone else's adaption to something that's been done 1000 times over, such as a first person shooter where the hero single handedly saves the world from an invading force of aliens. Or the exaggeratedly-spikey-haired androgynous youth that must team up with fellow exaggeratedly-spikey-haired androgynous youths to take turns fighting giant beetles and flowers that walk around and have faces. Where hasn't that been done? The last mostly original games that I can think of was Assassins Creed, but even that is soon going to be a sequel - and Portal. Point being; will everything be repeating itself (as it already has begun), with only a minor change to settings and story? ------------------- ![]() Forever the King of Pop.

Oh so vehicles are coming to their end too, since most new cars are based on their previous versions.

Vehicles don't get any less useful over each new version. Fun and immersion, on the other hand, does degrade.

Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden etc.. are all new series.

SvR, you seem to have missed the point. Resistance falls under the previous example of the hero single handedly saving the world from an alien invasion.
Same with Motorstorm, being a racing game. And Ninja Gaiden is around 20 years old. ------------------- ![]() Forever the King of Pop.

its hard to have new ideas tho...even more so for FPS games you know?
I had an idea for a FPS game. We ALL know we should die regulary in those games, but the hero die? muahah, never..... i would like to see a game, where the main guy flat out gets killed. You maybe controll like 10 people throught the game, but each one gets killed somehow... It would add some nice realism.... ------------------- "Among thousands of comrades and ten thousand enemies, only you... only you made me forget my dream."

I have an idea for a brand new style of gameplay for a GTA-style of game, but I doubt I'll be able to do anything with the idea to see it happen.

It would be hard to make though H_o_p_e because games are boring if you can't get attached to the characters, just like films. If you're constantly taking control of a new character, it's going to be hard to get properly absorbed and the game could be pretty boring. Not to mention the fact that you would be playing, knowing that your character is going to die at some point and no matter how good you are, you won't be able to change that.
It could work in a game based around something like The Day After Tomorrow, I Am Legend or even Dawn of the Dead though. Say you start with a bunch of characters in a group, but they keep dropping off one by one. At the end of the game, maybe your character would die to save someone they love or something? ------------------- ![]()

Good observation. In a way it has come to and end, sure there will be some new games coming out but only a few that are original and the massive rest are probably just 're-cycled' ideas. But if you think about it in a larger scale every idea for movies have been done too, also all the ideas for food and vehicles are also merely new.

Movies have been around for quite a bit longer, so it's not that good if games have started to run their course.
Movies only need to get the story across. Games can do that, but it's the gameplay in between the story that can only change so much before it starts getting boring. Without entertaining gameplay, what would be the point of making it a game to begin with and not just a movie? ------------------- ![]() Forever the King of Pop.
