Now I will grant you it is not overt, and it isn't even an invalid question. But it was borderline questioning, or at least your point was that you disagreed with my decision to discipline the other member in question.

Which is, again, why I just deleted your post with a friendly warning and took no further action. I understood why you posted what you did. Again, I have no problem with people posting questions about my decisions, or even informing me they think I suck as a mod or get some exaggerated self-importance from presiding over the forums. All I ask is that you do it in the proper place, which you did.

Only the last couple of bans I didn't add, but I will probably start updating it again. Lately I have been considering abolishing a public ban list and perhaps adding it as a Mod Only thread.

What's the point in a bans thread in any case?

One major point and one minor point. The major point is that it allows me to keep track of bans easier than trying to keep some off line list. This is good for future reference, say when some spamming troublemaker who gets a lot of bans pleads for leniency at some time later on. The second, more disputed reason, is it has the potential to act as a deterrent to future offenders, at least that is the hope.

Is it really useful to have a list of who was banned for what though? Seems more like a subtle public humiliation method than anything, I don't like having a ban list simply because I'd rather be discreet about it. If the other person wants their ban to be publicly known and posts that they were banned it's entirely on their shoulders, I guess I never saw the purpose in making a bigger to-do out of something that doesn't need to be so.

This is why I mentioned that it is not universally agreed on whether to make them public. Personally, I do it because the forum I was invited to co mod with (my first forum) had one, and it is a tradition I have maintained. Not saying it is a tradition I intend to keep, by the way. I am considering my options.

Aren't Mod Only threads suppose to be a secret?

Either way I agree with Gex. There really is no point in having the ban list public. The ban the member receives is their punishment. They really don't need humiliation added to their punishment too.
Making that thread a Mod Only thread will also reduce the amount of stickies us regular members can see. So it's a Win/Win for us all.
I kept the ban list in Gen PS3 up to date but I made sure it was a Mod Only thread.

Btw Chiro if it turns out Mod Only threads were indeed suppose to be kept secret then quickly edit this post. Lol.

To my knowledge, they are not secret. However, if they are, I honestly don't want to cover up my mistake by deleting the post. Better to be honest and just say I made a mistake if I did.

Well rather than covering up your mistake, you might have wanted to stop further people from coming in and reading it, surely.

Hazard - Sure, but if the rumour got spread through people who'd already come in and seen it, that's something beyond Chiro's control. While it's still up there, it's still directly his fault, since people are reading his post.

It's lose/lose, but it's still the better compromise than some false idea that leaving it up there is being honest.
