Couple weeks ago, my friends 360 started winking at him with that nasty red eye it has - so some time last week, his parents got him a new one for his birthday... and since I'm not one to pass up a chance to take something apart, I snatched up the dysfunctional unit and started hitting up the internet for all the know 'fixes' for this problem. Took it all apart, replaced the thermal junk on the processors, wrapped it up in a towel and let it run, then took it all apart again and changed the location of the ventilation fans.

It took a few days of trial and error... but it seems to run steadily now, except it doesn't really resemble a 360 anymore.



I had to talk him into giving me a game to test it with, and it was coincidentally IV. Hopefully this thing will last long enough for me to finally finish the game.

I have a DUMB question Game Masta. Why didn't you just call MS and get an RMA number and have the RRoD problem fixed for free? Unless I am misunderstanding you, it sounds like that was the problem, and MS extended the warranty to cover this problem for ALL 360's created since the launch of the console.

I already suggested it my friend, but it's just passed the warranty... from what I read, they extended it to 3 years from purchase day, right?

They, uh, put detailed dates on the parts on the inside. Early 06. Plus, that wouldn't have been as fun.

No no no! They extended the warranty to cover ALL 360's, period. They have not stopped fixing even the launch models for free, but only if it is the RRoD and one other covered problem that I forget what it is. Unfortunately, you voided your warranty when you opened it I think.

My 360 broke a month ago and I called up Microsoft last week. They brought a box and told me to put my 360 in there and take the hard drive out. So my question is, do they put in a new hard drive and give you back the one you gave them or do they just give you a new 360?
