Randomly Generated Maps

So who thinks randomly generated maps would be a good idea?

I personally think it would improve the mlultiplayer 100%, because most games on GoW these days are :

Gridlock
Warzone
everyone goes to the same area and uses the same damn strategy.

I think randomly generated maps would add suspense,to the online action.

By randomly generated, do you mean the map is selected from the map list at random, or you want the game to actually create you a new map at random every time you play? Because if you mean the latter, that is ridiculous, and would never work.

What if he meant that the weapon spawns and whatnot would be random?

If he's talking about randomly generating different maps and making them unique each time, then I think that is an idea that you'll never see implemented in the Gears games. Not that its a horrible idea, but its un-needed, especially when other areas could be addressed.

What I meant was the game could create a new map for every session if you choose so, it would be pretty easy considering you could just make a grid systems and make 3d tilesets, and then just have the game place em procedurally so it works out, but a random map list would be cool too.

Randomly generated maps are better for RTS games. Gears of War is the sort of game where a large part of skill is having the maps down. If they changed every time, things like ambushing and sniping would be abandoned. Everyone would resort to close range combat. That's just my theory of course.

it's not really a good idea because it would take forever to find weapons,you might get a crappy map,utter chaos,and it would be no fun at all

I think it could definitely work, but it's unnecessary.

I personally would love to see it. I'd actually like to see different maps each time you play through single-player as well.

Resistance 2 is supposedly going to have the maps be randomly generated/different each time you play through the Campaign. I'd love to see that in a lot of games.

They did this idea with Soldier of Fortune 2, and to be honest, it was ok for the first dozen random maps, then it just because tedious. It was obvious that it was just moving a guard tower from point A to point B, no matter what the random seed given to the program, and at times, it made the maps feel empty and boring, so it affected the flow of the game. I'd much rather go with a professionally designed map hundreds of times than hundreds of random maps with terrible balance, where spawn-locations gave the upper hand (such as in Worms).
