Scout update

Apparently, it's scheduled for the 24th Feb.

You can already discover the sandman (I already hate this weapon) and the new maps.

re: Scout update

I want to play on CP_Egypt. The Sandman looks interesting as well, but I hope the scattergun doesn't change too much.

re: Scout update

Apparently, the new scattergun can take players to the heights of a demoman's sticky jump, or a soldier's rocket jump (according to the CP_Egypt description). Perhaps this is through the introduction of a secondary function (much like a Pyro's compression blast) that blasts the user backwards?

I hope it isn't too dramatic of a difference.

re: Scout update

Me too. Scouts are hard enough to hit already; not only does the Bonk! energy drink make them invulnerable to bullets for a short while, but the addition of a knock-back gun could severely throw off the balance of gameplay. Not to mention, scouts can now also stun ubercharged enemies. Might this lead to a cap on scouts in certain servers, much like the cap on snipers?

re: Scout update

The servers I play on have a cap on all classes. The primary one has a limit of 2 of Snipers and Engis and a cap of around 5/6 for Scouts but donators can take any class without a limit.

re: Scout update

I see. It's likely, then, that the servers I frequent have a cap on scouts as well. We've never had more than three or four people trying to be scouts at once, though, so I can't quite say I've experienced it myself. xD.

I wonder how strategies will play out in CP_Egypt. For example, in CP_Orange the two teams tend to direct their attention to the watchtower; a haven for snipers, and an easy place to reach as a demo man or soldier. It seems this level has numerous sniping and stunning spots, assuming the scattergun update is enough for scouts to reach the top of buildings.

re: Scout update

I hope that common sniping points are not made easier to access by the Scouts I snipe a lot when I play (almost 20 hours total iirc) and on cp_purple_x the demo men and soldiers can be a nuisance on their own combined with low grav/speed the scouts can dominate.

re: Scout update

In Egypt, it seems like snipers will be sniping from inside windows (which would be complete overkill). But seeing as how snipers have less mobility than scouts, they're doomed to fall prey. Snipe them before they can reach your tower, in other words. xD

Also, it's much easier to snipe in cp_orange and cp_purple from the ramp / staircase by your team's second base. If you can crouch and back up to the point where only a small part of your head is showing, only other snipers will pose a moderate threat. It's also easier to follow a target with the scope, because you're both horizontal. Sniping from the tower not only leaves you incredibly vulnerable without engineer backup, but the angle makes it harder to accurately hit a moving target.

re: Scout update

Ha, I dominate as sniper on purple no matter where I am it seems. Especially with this...please don't share it too much...new update where you can customize the reticule and it makes it show up no scoping

re: Scout update

Sounds quite interesting; but doesn't no-scope have less power than a fully charged shot?

true but the ability to get noscope shots when a scout/pyro is rushing you is nice

re: Scout update

I'm just deceived by the new scattergun. It's not easy to use for doing a high jump. But the Sandman is great... at least when you're not playing ubered medic (and medic is my main class). It's also wonderful on achievement server for stunning someone annoying or someone who just killed without reason. But I hate it when I'm helping, I'm always stunned.

Also, love the blur with the energy drink. It's sweet...

But what I don't love with that scout update, apart the fact that I'm still hating scouts, is the achievement Quick Hook. I'm playing on a server where it's forbidden, the usual players will not attempt to get it but I can't imagine that an achievement was about setup killing. Where is the fun with that kind of tactic? Anyway, I unlock it but on an empty server and with a Steam friend.

Oh and servers were I'm playing have a limit of 3 engineers, 3 pyros and now 3 scouts
