finally mafia is back! |
|
Mafia is my number one game of all time, I remember getting it on my PC years ago. The graphics compared to todays games where terrible but for me it was an iconic, allbeit an unpopular game for most people. You couldn't go in any buildings, the cars where terrible, the game stuttered constantly (and so did a certain mechanic who worked behind the restaraunt) it was quite a short game, you couldn't do half the things you can do in the GTA series (swim, fly planes, drive a supercar, there where only a few guns) the interaction with the city was just shocking, even with all that it was an absolutely outstanding game, a game years ahead of it's time! Anyone who played all the way to the end of the game 6 years back will agree. The detail that went into the storyline and the missions made GTA 3 and will make GTA IV look like arcade games. The research and preperation the developers must have done to perfect the 1930's scene must have been the biggest operation in gaming history. Rockstar will never figure out how to perfect the guns, or how to get the balance between a detailed storyline and free roaming right, not in the way that Mafia did. Not trying to have digs at GTA since that is a great series, just making a point that Mafia has a right to be in the same league as Rockstars creation.
If the guys who made City of last heaven are making this, and they manage to improve on the original, this is going to be an outstanding game. It will probably be superior to GTA IV, however like with the original will get zero credit. I never believed we would see a sequel to Mafia especially after 6 years of silence, so to hear that there will be one is brilliant news. Now all we need is Max Payne 3, bring back all the classic pc shooting games! re: finally mafia is back! |
quote Mr GrayThat's the only gripe I have with a remake. With modern technology I hope they're not just focusing on the graphics and actually put some real detail into the story and the missions ala the original quote z fighterI think if you put things into perspective criticising the graphics is very harsh as the game was a 2002 release. I don't know a lot about computers and pixels or any of that mumbo jumbo but if you compare Mafia to the other milestone in the free roam genre that year - GTA III I'd say it stands up pretty well. Certainly looking at Mafia from a modern viewpoint shows just how poor the graphics are though, compared to some of the gaming giants around today. But after playing on GTA IV it just goes to show that graphics alone don't make a great game. add resitstance 2 to that list as well, what a load of shite. ------------------- ![]() http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/38846/ - Mafia II forum | |
