I'm thinking I'm good enough to take on Plesioth now, after having beating Yian Garuga. However, I've tried fighting Plesioth before (a couple of days ago) and it's insane to fight with sword and shields/dual swords. I've heard people here talking about Plesioth's ridiculous hipcheck, so I may try the path of the Gunner.

What Armor and long-ranged weapon/ammo would you recommend for Plesioth? (specifically Water Wyvern in the Desert*4) I prefer being able to move a little faster if I can, so something not too cumbersome would be great. I wouldn't mind lance suggestions either if they're effective.

I have the same problem as you do. Hip-check is very frustrating. Well if gunner I suggest using bullets with Electric attribute.

Lance Him with Guard+1 On Hermitaur Armor
Or Make The Gunner Armor And Pound Him with,Pierce,Clust,Fire,Thunder and Crag Shots
I Went with the Heavy Bowgun for Him,I Think It's Made of Cephalos Materials...It can Fire Thunder Shots...
You Can Also Try Sonic Bow (Needs Insect Materials)
Or Some Light Bowguns...
Just Remember To Bring Potions,Hot Drinks and Sonic Bombs
And Be Prepared For The Most Annoying Attack Evar!

I used Large Barrel Bombs and the small ones. Then it when rage and pwned me... Sad story...

I still hate the plesioth fights even now! I killed my first one with my prominance bow one.

One thing that you need to be wary of though when using bows is that although you can shoot it in the water, if you kill it in the water you wont get any carves..

A decent way of fighting the plesioth is with a greatsword. Although i suggest a really high powered one, like the king thundersword.

What you do is, wait for it to use it's water jet attack, and smack it in the face. Simples. You can also use a number of traps to get more hits in, or some bombs in, and if you feel brave, you can always attack its feet while it's doing other things, like tail swing or whatever.

Attack from Plesi's left... be ready to roll to try and avoid hipchecks. Likewise if you have to reposition/run around Plesi.. try and go around his left side.

Don't get greedy.

Weapon-wise, anything you feel safe with. If you are getting stomped in melee range, swap out for a Bow/bowgun, stay ranged and use Pierce Shot.

Try and aim for the head/tail so that your pierce travels along the longest part of the body.

Personally, I now favour the TDS against it, but i've used the normal devil slicer at low levels anyway! Although the lack of guard is annoying, the devil slicer is quite easy to obtain and is really helpful for monsters weak to thunder.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I don't think I'll try meleeing Plesioth until I've beaten a few of them and can recognize their moves more easily, plus Plesioth's huge feet always knock me about too much for my liking to even try Great Swords (although the katana I used for beating Garuga is highly tempting...)

I've got a lot of materials and can try making a decent bowgun. Now, one last thing is that since I've got Treyna, he's been bringing me lots of Dragonwood and Dragonmoss. Would a bow with these materials be better off used as something else, especially since Dragonwood/moss is quite rare?

I made the dragonwood bow halo coz it looked cool! I like using it, but it's personal preference!! It's a good bow, but it's your choice

try to get a good fire attribute longsword and wreck the shit outta him.
be sure to bring 10 potions 10 mega potions, 10 herbs, 10 blue mushrooms, 20 wetstones, armor skin, demondrug, 10 sonic bombs, 10 screamers and 10 bomb material i think. and you should be fine. and if you have any frogs use them to fish him out the first time,

thats the tricky part,
i usually run under his legs for the pain in the arse tail whip with huge idiotic hitboxes.
as for the hip checks you can tell when hes about to do one so you just dodge towards his neck. the hip check dosent have any effect there
