Third-party campaigns will be supported! |
|
Source.
Valve reveiled details on SDK, which I've never heard of until now, but I believe it stands for "software developement kit". Basically, it is going to have the game allow third-party created campaigns, and some additions to matchamking for Versus mode. For Versus, matches will now be based on skill level, which has me wondering on how that works since there's no ranking system at all for Left 4 Dead. I'm assuming this will be for both PC and 360, at least I would hope so. We should be getting this shortly after the Survival Pack releases on the 21st. -------------------

Is the SDK going to be forced onto us unfortunate computer users, like patches are, or will it be optional (which is what im currently assuming)?
Its just that, however much i've always wanted to have a go at creating a map, i probably wont understand it, and don't really want to have to download something im probably not going to use. Thanks.

TruSkill is....bleh, glad I have the PC version. Perhaps Valve will make their own rating system. The content might be optional, it depends. It could be where user-made levels, if good enough, will get turned into 'official' levels, and become part of the game. ------------------- ![]()

quote BlurgeNo, the SDK will not be mandatory, it will appear in your "Tools" section where you can install it whenever you want. ------------------- This is my signature. Fear it. Credit to Onocron

That will make the game very enjoyable, with more campaigns, more stuff to do!

quote Drago Shiwe should make a map detailing the best l4d custom maps. you can already play some custome mpas i have just been watching them on youtube. not sure if you can play online or if they are fully functioning though. now all they need to do is give us some new weapons. i was just wondering could the mod community not do this? i mean i got a fusion pack for counter strike and it didnt change any of the stats of the guns but made them look 10x better which just freshened the game up a bit.

I've played a mall one. The reason the annoucemnent came out *now* I think is because some mods are nearing completion. . You've been able to download Source SDK for a long time now, however, SDK is not needed to play custom maps, just build them. ------------------- ![]()

aye, its quite impressive how it works with half life and cs:S custom maps with little fault.
i just bought the pc version from shopto for £14 so if anybody wants it thats a bargain. my graphics card copes with tf2 and cs:S or half life but not l4d. anybody got any suggestions on a good cheapish graphics card that will run it smoothly on medium settings? sadly i have an agp slot but am thinking about either NVidia GeForce Graphics Card Club 6600 256MB 8X AGP or this which i found on play http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/667/874/-/5973032/Play-Value-X1650-Pro-512MB-AGP-8x-Graphics-Card/Product.html?searchtype=genre in all honesty though i would rather not pay £40 if i can help it but if i sell mine at least that will cover some of the damage. anybody know if they will run it ok? bit off topic i know but i only bought the pc version for the custom maps (and overall better support like with temafortress 2) and now i cant play it and my xbox version will have sold shortly on ebay! anyways thanks for any help.
