Fighting them in space would be the shortest war in history.It would be human Geonocide.They are superior in everyway in space combat.What would work would be to nuke are planet.But at an extreme cost of human life.Although the lucky few could be transported to the moon to colonize it.Then about 60 years later we return to earth after the earth was stable and safe for humans to inhabit again.I rather die than serve a covenant.(I know this seems very far fetched)

Do you actually think we would make it to the moon? If we destroyed the planet, they would simply destroy the moon and move on. Theres no way they would allow colonization ships to get through. Also, I did not mean conventional space combat, but rather a type of guerilla war in space. This could take 2 forms:

1. Small bands of space "pirates" which could attack supply lanes (Freelancer is rubbing off on me)
2. Bands of soldiers who board ships, and either take control of them or destroy them from the inside out (sorta like 'Truth and Reconciliation')

In all likelyhood, neither of these would work, and we would be doomed.

We don't have the technology or the resources to seriously consider attacking them from space as a viable alternative, but it is something that must be done, or Earth would get glassed. I think that some sort of infiltration plan would be the way to go. Maybe if we could capture a bunch of dropships, we could fill them with special forces and have them attempt to clear out the insides of each ship. Or better yet, just have one guy with a nuke in the dropship and let him kamikaze the damn thing as soon as it lets him dock. I mean, us humans are sneaky sunsofbitches, I'm sure we could figure something out. Maybe we could make a computer virus that would screw 'em up, like in Independence Day...

Yea, but their ships arent linked together by anything like in Independence Day.

Well, not that we know of... If we could commandeer a Covenant vessel though, we could probably use their ship weapons against them too. We're good at using other people's technology against them, we do that a lot!

lets face it, we'd have no hope. no one would leave earth alive, unless they were inprisoned by the covvies. if we captured a ship, even if we were able to (miraculously) take out 4 or 5 other ships, there would still be more waiting. so, sorry to burst the bubble of everyone in this thread, but we'd be dead. there could be a situation like battlefield earth (cringe), where human slaves on, say, the covvie homeworld rebelled. then we might have a chance. the Covenant will win as long as they have the power to wipe out our base of operations (i.e. earth, starship, etc.)

Well.. it depends,on our current technology we would be sowewhat hopeless against the '26th Century' Covenant.

But if had a 'few good ships AND men' then maybe with a little of futuristic magic,we would have a good chance against the Covves.

LOL, seriously though, there has to be a way we sould win. There have been hundreds of times throughout history where the impossible was made possible through the grim determination of a few people, and dammit, I'd like to think this would be one of them!

i used to agree with you slacker, but i am currently reading The Fall of Reach, and I have to say, without spartans, MAC guns, or even starships, its hopeless.

Yeah, I've read The Fall of Reach a few times, and I still have hope...

Hehe, in all honesty though, not even Reach could repel a Covenant attack, and that was a heavily-fortified planet. Having said that, if their goal was to capture Earth and not decimate it, I could see how we'd have hope. If they just wanted to glass it, we wouldn't even know what happened until we were already extinct...

well...there are so many things to say:

1. You aren't very clear about how you define "real". Not everyone has the same belief about what constitutes as real or not. For some, being able to immerse yourself in the game or books is enough to count as real, in which case, Halo is real.

2. Every story ever told is real, somewhere, because the universe is endless, and so somewhere inbetween the dimensions where the only difference is humans have horns and the dimensions where peanut butter rules the sky and smiling is a form of plague, there is a dimension where the events described in Halo are happening/happened/will happen.

Naw, at least 1% of us would be alive, either in a space ship, or as soldiers in the sections of earth where they are still fighting (but if we're going to talk about realistic things, we should put into consideration the percent of people who would still be safe on other planets, as well as the percent of us that would have died already on planets attacked by the covenant.
