  It's been a hectic week in football for West Midlands club Aston Villa Football Club, as Owner an d Villa fan Randy Lerner confirmed the resignation of Martin O'Niell and the agreeing in signing replacement manager David Powell ahead of the new Master League season. This news comes to a shock for many across the nation as O'Niell turned down a dream job at Old Trafford only last week. Powell said he was happy to be on board, and hopes he can become a cult hero at the club. Aston Villa will start their Master League season in under a week and with fixtures against sides like Celtic, Rangers, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven to come in the forthcoming season- it will be a real test for the manager as he gets to grips with his small but capable side. Profile: The Manager  David Powell, who referred to as Davey at times, has had a rollercoaster career of a management it seems when it comes to the Master League. Powell enjoyed just under eight years at boyhood favourites Tottenham Hotspur in which he led them to the Premier League title and the Champions League title on three occasions. Since those days of being a 'managerial hero', Powell has struggled with form, moving from team to team has seen his respect lowered to almost a shell of what it once was. He spent single years at Hamburger SV (Germany), Portsmouth (England), Werder Bremen (Germany) and more recently Zenit St. Petersburg (Russia), but has said in a recent conference that he was "working his way back into English football".   A NEW MANAGER IN THE HOTSEAT  The new manager at Spurs, Ben Wignall. After much anticipation over the weeks gone by, the sacking of Harry Redknapp shocked nobody at all. Spurs had a disappointing season last year, and they were ready to start over. They didn't expect a manager of such little quality to be brought in though.
