MSI 790FX-GD70 and Video Cards |
|
Hi there. I posted a message here before, and got some great help, and here I am looking for it again. I'm really worried about compatibility issues so I'm here to ask.
How do I know what video cards are compatible with my motherboard? MSI 790FX-GD70 I'm just not sure, and I don't wanna risk anything, ya know? Hope to hear from someone soon, Greg F. P.S. To the person that help me out here before. Thank you very much.

If it's a PCIe x 16 card it'll work on your board.
What games will you be playing and at what resolution?

Alright Also what's your budget, and system specs?
If you're looking for a cheap card a GTS 250, or 4770 should work great in those games at that res. If you want a more powerful card, maybe a GTX 260 or 4870. Again the first two should be more then enough for those games.

re: MSI 790FX-GD70 and Video Cards |
quote Player1I did a bunch of searching on newegg.com and honestly I'm still a bit unsure of what video card to get. They all seem to have issue, whether that be heating, or technical. Is there a powerful, solid, video card? I'm sure there are, but they seem to go into the $200 range. Is this true? I'm willing to spend the money, I just need to make sure it won't crap out on me. So what's a good manufacturer of video cards?

If you can afford it (they're not pricey though), you can go with XFX brand. They have a lifetime warranty on their cards, so getting a replacement is guarenteed if it's a manufacturer's defect.

The newegg reviews are written by people who are borderline retarded.
Don't trust them. We do need to know you full system specs before we can suggest anything though.

Are there going to be any compatability issues that you can see so far? Is there anything that you can recomend instead of what I have so far? Like, "Instead of this motherboard, try this motherboard".

bah, manufacturers warranty. for 200 bucks, grab the fastest 4890 available; the HIS HD4890 with an overclocked core of 965 mhz. its about 180 dollars after rebates. Link

Yeah, this does look really good. It's solid too, and what makes me a happy camper is the fact that I can buy an extended warranty. Sweet deal. Looks like I'm choosing this as my video card. Thanks.
Are there any other recommendations you can make? I'm still iffy on the motherboard. I'm just asking cause I'm new at all this. Thanks.

how much was the mobo? because usually you can get a cheap mobo and leave it at that. all you need is something that supports your CPU and RAM.

re: MSI 790FX-GD70 and Video Cards |
quote hiigaranIt was $164.00 dollars. I know this is a lot, considering other motherboards but I want to run a Phenom II x4 955, so that alone usually rises the value of the motherboard. From what I've seen so far... Uhm, if you know any solid motherboards that can run my CPU, but are cheaper than what I have in mind, and have PCI Express 2.0 x 16, then that'd be greatly appreciated.

Any AM3 board should be able to run the 955.
If you're not overclocking it doesn't really matter which one you choose, as long as it does what you want.
