In the Tenchu universe, what does Tenchu Z have to do with anything? -just wondering

Its really just sort of a spin off for fun but in my opinion it wasnt fun I dont think they really planned on the game being considered canon in the Tenchu universe.

It's supposed to be long after the other games i presume.
Rikimaru has decided to start expanding the azuma clan and training a bunch of ninjas( hence the online multiplayer).

Indeed no one is to worry about TenchuZ, in fact; after playing Tenchu2, i totaly forgot that it existed! Role on leakage of Tenchu4!

Well moving right along the thing about Tenchu Z is to alot of X box owners this will be the only tenchu they see and it gives tenchu a bad name.

Indeed. Everyone who owns a 360 and TenchuZ should just buy an old pre-owned PS2 (should be cheap enough), and go and buy yourself Tenchu, Tenchu2, Tenchu WoH and Fatal Shadows. Then you know what a stealth game should look like. You will be hard pushed to find a better one.

I didn't really like the ones on the PSX all too much; they reminded me too much of Tomb Raider (the graphics and the shitty animations and controls). Wrath of Heaven on the PS2, however, played a lot smoother. It still had some camera angle issues, but it was definitely playable. To me, Tenchu Z, by far, had the best controls and animations. I guess I have a controls/ animations and camera view fettish. I like it when I can play a game smoothly. A lot of people would disagree, but I thought that the gameplay and everything in Shadow of the Colossus was amazing... Yeah, the camera view sometimes interfered, but it wasn't as big of a problem as some people claimed it to be.

Now, I'm not saying that this is what the main component of a great game is comprised of... I don't really like games that have shitty stories. See, Tenchu Z played really well, but the story... needs some work. I didn't even bother finishing the game, let alone the first few levels or so. I *might* have let it die too quickly, because my friend kept bugging me about borrowing it as soon as I got it, so my judgement might not have been fair.

I think that in a way, my fettish can be grouped up into one word: gameplay. And because my fettish is gameplay, Tenchu 4 for the Wii somewhat interests me.

Other factors of a good game: art, music, and features.

For art, the graphics have got to be presentable. This means smooth character models, a good art style (PSX graphics are not up to standards this day in age), and detailed scnery.

For music, the game has to have a good soundtrack. Sound effects might also be grouped into it. This means that no one wants to hear Rikimaru or Ayame stepping on shit while he/she walks through grass in dry dirt....

Features are all about the extra parts of a game- online content, multiplayer (co-op online, co-op campaign, or deathmatch), character customization, art gallery, ect.

If Tenchu 4 gets good scores in these areas, then it is a winner in my book. Only time will tell.

I would call it a whinge. Why do people keep going on and on and on about the camera angles? They are fine. More than fine to be quite honest. I find nothing wrong with WoH's camera, apart from looking around very tight (like paper-thin divides, that an enemy is standing behind). The peaking-around-the-corner angle is just fine, apart from the aforementioned degree.

Well that is because they were not MADE in this day and age. Tenchu and Tenchu2 were both made before the 21st century began, so why are you complaining that their graphics are crap? Do you expect them to be more detailed and smooth than that of a PS3 or XBOX 360? Of course the graphics are not a shade on what games are now, but for their time the gameplay and graphics were ahead of their time. I cannot see your point. Of course they are not 'up to standard for this day and age' because they are not from this day or age!

I see your point about the art and soundtrack, but Tenchu has always been excellent with the menu layouts and picture work ETC. As for the soundtrack... Tenchu has my favourite soundtrack of any game. the Music is superb.

Well Omegafury I agree that WoH plays smoother than the older games and Z plays better than the PS2 ones but my problems with the newer tenchus is that they just dont change enough. The stories never lived up to Tenchu 2 either, in my opinion.

Tenchu Z was a decent game i guess, but for 360 its a little behind the times.

But one thing I would disagree with you on is the story. Yes most of these games dont have great stories but Tenchu 2 has one of the best story-lines i've ever seen in a game.
(and I agree Shadow of the Colassus is one of the best games I've played)

And guys since our love for tenchu tends make us overlook its flaws sometimes we over-praise the series. I'm glad to have objective opinion in these forums for once. I'm glad we have another postee to exchange with.

I just started to play Tenchu 2 now, so I'm not sure how well the story is. I'll keep playing and take your word on it that it is indeed worth finishing.

Eventually, I'm going to buy Tenchu Z again because I gave it to my friend in exchange for Mass Effect.

A wise choice my friend! Mass Effect looks like one of the better reasons to get a 360. i'd love to play it but I have to follow where MGS leads me( the PS3)



But anyway about Tenchu 4...
I think aquire is trying to bring back the dramatic storyline from the looks of the new trailer and the gameplay has been dramatically changed. (finally)
