lagging problem

I am running original red alert 2 on xp home. lagging occured so I updated motherboard, processor and graphics. It still lags. Husbands pc runs it perfectly and he has older motherboard, processor and graphics and less RAM than I. Anyone know what the cause might be? Please help.
