Story Of Your Season

Pretty much like last year: Use this thread to post up end of season reviews or regular updates on your progress throughout the season, if you don't feel like creating an individual SOMS thread.

In fact, as at the moment only the Demo is out, you are encouraged to mainly use this thread instead of creating SOMS threads that are not going to go past 6 months, but of course in the end it's up to each one of you.

re: Story Of Your Season

Southend have gladly announced that fan Peter Goodwin would be taking over from Steve Tilson after a dismal play-off performance last season. Goodwin has been going to Southend matches consistently for 5 years and knows the in's and out's of the club. Other fans of the club have responded with great delight that a fan has been appointed. The main point of debate was the way that he knows how the club works and what players are needed to be brought in. Goodwin will be expected to bring the club to promotion or at least challenge well in the play-offs.

re: Story Of Your Season

Well, after a slow start with Newcastle, I've finally got them up and going. 7 points from 5 matches is enough to see me into 8th at this point. Little to money to spend with, I only recruited 3 players. A Swiss AMC (can't remember his name), Martin Caceres on loan from Barcelona for the year, and Fredrik Ljunberg on a free, who is proving to be an absolute champion in my midfield, which lacks something going forward. Owen and Xisco have formed a tidy partnership upfront, with 9 goals from 5 games between them. Overall, if I can finish mid-table this year, I'll be delighted, and it'll then give me something to work with once the game comes out. I don't know why all these people are bitching about tactics, real managers do with what they've got

re: Story Of Your Season

Alright, coming up to the end of November now, and I thought I'd update you all on my progress.

Here is the League Table. Sitting smack bang where I want to be, doing very well considering the squad that I inherited. Mike Ashley is currently in the process of selling the club, and hopefully I'll have new owners (and cash!) in a week's time.

Here are my squad and tactics. As you can see, I haven't been able to make wholesale changes, sold Harper for 1.5 million euros to Man City and brought in Margairaz for 4.6 million euros, Ljungberg for a free, defiently a must have for any teams struggling for numbers, and Caceres on loan from Barcelona for the season. I like this formation, as it gives Newcastle the stability down back it needs, whilst providing a quick, effective counter-attack threat.

Here are my upcoming January transfers. I am selling Owen because he refuses to sign a new contract, and he runs out in June, so I decided to cash in. However, with that money, I was able to spend on Vukcevic and Radoi, absolutely quality players. My scouts found Radoi, a gem of FM09?

So, what do people think so far?

Nice going so far, walnuts. One thing, though. I'd definitely play your wingers higher than you currently play them, are they getting forward enough where they are now? Also, how's Martins? I loved him on FM08, always looked to buy him if I needed a striker so I'm interested to know what he's like on this version.

re: Story Of Your Season

@ Underated: Well, they're playing more as wing backs that get forward, rather than wingers that get back. I like them there to cover any threats that teams might pose on the wings. So far, I haven't had any problems with them getting forward, because they are both EXTREMELY quick, and so they usually burn their opponents into the ground. Could pose a problem though if I have fatty wing backs though Martins is doing extremely well. He doesn't have many goals, but he is leading assists, which is pleasing. Tbh though, I think they've underated him this year, which is a bit disappointing. However, there are times when some players not reknowned for their speed match Martins stride for stride

@ The_Chaser: Lol, and here I was thinking I had discovered a gem! Anyways, he looks great, but I had to pay more for him because I'm in November and he has been playing very well, so I naturally had to pay more for him. Tbh though, my start signing has been Ljunberg. Absolutely class, and on a free transfer too!

He's been pretty good, avg rating of 7.19 which is not bad. He is better than Steven Taylor, Taylor makes so many bad decisions it is laughable. So, I might look to sell him in the near future, and with Radoi coming in, my backline will look surprisingly solid. I will need to buy another class striker to replace Owen though.

I'm on the strawberry demo, the big one.

You could try Rivaldo, a good buy for 800k.

Freddy Ljungberg isn't on vanilla.

re: Story Of Your Season

Wow walnuts, how did you wrangle €25m from spurs?? I got him for £6m, and it wasnt delayed, how weird but great business nonetheless.

Just reached the dreaded "thanks for playing the demo" screen and now I must wait to continue my game.

SoMS as Spurs so far: Injuries, and lots of them, but I'm 4th Zokora got injured on the opening day, out for 7 months, just great. dos Santos had 3 months out, Bale had 2 months, Bentley had 2, Lennon had 1, Kerzhakov had one, Cole's had 2 sperate months, Woodgate's had 3 weeks, Hutton had 2 months, Bent had one, Owen had 3 weeks, Modric had a month, Jenas had 3 weeks and Tugay had a month. And a mountain of bookings too. A patch is probably needed cos on the injury table, at one point, Middlesbrough had 9 proper first team players out. What else? Lost to Oldham in league cup 1-0, stupidly fielded a weakened side. Won the north london derby 1-0, Bale free kick straight round the wall. Currently havent lost in 9 matches including winning the last 6. Rafa Benitez has just been sacked cos Liverpool are 15th and I just beat them 2-0 at Anfield. No replacement as yet. Got through the UEFA cup group of Seville, PSG, Salzburg and Setubal, have to play PSV next. Won Decembers Manager of the Month award. Pav is 3rd top scorer with 12, and Man U and Chelsea are battling it out for the title, i think Chelsea are a point ahead. I dunno what else. I might get into more detail when I get the game and complete the season.
