A question to ALL Neo-steam group users |
|
I am aware that currently there are only a few Neo-steam users that are constantly active in certain games, these are also mainly the ones that pop into the group chat.
However this question is to everyone within the group and this will be posted as an in announcement in steam as well. Basically if you follow up on the forum or steam group about news then you are aware that I have recently purchased a Gmod server with my own money for the steam group to use. Well I am now considering buying a dedicated server. To give some more information, the dedicated server shall be split 3 ways. There is my portion which will be used for a gaming review website in which I hope will propel my target career as a games reviewer. The second area will be for Crazy_spai (or sain whichever he goes by in the forum)...it's his payment more or less for being my webmaster and more or less "tinkerer" of the server. Lastly whatever isn't used between me and him shall be used to host 24/7 Neoseeker servers of the games you play...CS:S, TF2, Gmod etc. Now the server I am planning to get is costly then again I have searched and searched the internet and each dedi server is either the same price or alot more than the one I have seen. The price will be £100 a month (around $200 give or take a few) with a set-up fee of £99 (again close to $200) The set-up fee isn't a problem and is a one time payment. I have asked questions on the provider's forum and pretty much got decent and fast replies: http://forums.cybernetic-servers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3699 So the question is, how many of you would be willing to do a "donation" system and what sort of payment type would be best? I am assuming the latter would be paypal based, however depending on the amount of people interested in this then that depends on what you donate. Such as I would be thinking £5-£10 ($10-$20) would be enough especially with 5 or more people. Obviously I will be paying a major bulk so I am not asking for the whole £100 to be covered. If you have any questions then just ask here or PM me. By the way this won't be happening for a few months as of yet ------------------- ![]() ![]()

I'm willing to, but I don't have a Paypal account atm nor my own credit card, so you could put it as a "maybe". Making a Paypal account is not a problem, but the credit card could be...

I can't, sorry. I simply don't have the cash: I already donate to my CS:S clan's servers.

quote The AnswerI'm sorry SJ, but I'm stuck in the same situation as The Answer. I'd love to help out with the money, but I'm just another teenager who doesn't have a job, nor have the age requirement to get a credit card. If you're able to keep it up until the time I do happen to get one of the two, I'll certainly help out. -------------------

To those who think I am getting a free ride. I am not, I will be donating around a eighth of the cost.
For those who are teenagers like I, ask you parents to set you up one if you don't have any bank info. If you have any skills with PC's go on those freelance sites like elance.com and get setup with an account. Read the FAQ's and try to get money,

Or get the Visa Gift Card things are register them so they could work like a credit card, and possibly through pay pal.
You can throw me on the maybe list as well. I might end up putting in some money if I start to play more with the Neo group members...and if the TF2 server part has cp_purple_x with low gravity and high critical hit ratio ------------------- ![]()

I'd be able to donate a bit, around $25 a month or so. I'm a bit strapped for cash. ------------------- ![]()

£100 is only around $145 at the moment, so any Americans donating would be contributing a lot higher percentage than what would typically be expected, so great if we can any of them involved.
I'd be willing to pay at least £10 a month providing I get enough money in the bank in time. I'd imagine fluctuation with how high and low though. Anyone mentioning not being able to get a credit card, and that being the only reason not to: get a debit card (piss-easy) or one of those limited cash cards. -------------------

I'm just curious...why would we donate to this if we're helping you run a website, and your friend do whatever else, and the rest used for games? Because most servers are like $50 monthly at most man, so why not just get one of those?

quote CelesYeah, I know you can get a Debit Card in the UK from age 14 (Solo card at HSBC, for example). And 16+ can get a Visa at Lloyds TSB. That's what I've got atm, and it's excellent: it's what I use for all my online purchases, and most of the stuff I buy on the high-street for over £10. -------------------

quote JeshThe freedom of the dedicated server will allow more customization along with more security for the game servers. Since we have a server ourselves we also have more internet. The money that is donated by the Steam users will atmost cover only about half of the cost. I am thinking only 1/4 to 1.5/4 of the cost. They will not be paying for our use. I will be paying for mine and Salv is going to be paying the most. We will run a minimum of 3 game servers but I can guarantee we will be able to run more if need be. If you don't want to donate that is fine but please don't criticize.

re: A question to ALL Neo-steam group users |
quote JeshGood question and I was expecting it. The fact is...you wouldn't be helping me run anything...it will be me helping you in return that everyone chips in for the servers...think of it as going halves with me...I pay half including the setup fee and then out of the rest that are interested would cut the other half down to easy payments. As to why instead of just getting game servers? In the questions I asked the service providers, I asked if it was possible to run TF2, CS:S and Gmod servers at the same time with no problems and no worries, they said yes and with no performance hit. Along with that, there are no restrictions on Dedi servers unlike there is on game servers. each game server I plan to put on there can have more slots when needed...say if someone wants to invite a few friends. It also means that instead of editing a server for each means...I can just open another up...for example. for RvB tournaments..the other server can be left for those not involved in RvB games (for example Crazy_sain) where they can play as normal. Ontop of all this, we can add any game server or take a game server at will. As to Dedi VS Game server. Calculate the cost of a CS:S and a TF2 server...say both 16 slots. Include a 10 slot Gmod server When combined they aren't cheap and when you want to expand to a 24 slot server, you must pay extra to gain it. Same with teamspeak servers. Ontop of that, if we ever do need a bigger server then the guys at Cybernetics have said they will migrate us to a bigger one ------------------- ![]() ![]()

quote FlippyXI got a Visa from Barclaycard when I was 15 I think, so it shouldn't be an issue for most members here. And why would we want to pay a little for Salv's box? Well, 'cause we get limitless game servers for a much better price; that's why. -------------------

Don't worry guys, I actually wasn't really wondering that, I sort of knew the answer. But I also figured that it would be something a multitude of people would wonder, or at least know about before entering.
