I think it would be nice if we get a thread here for basic and pro tips that can help the amateur rise to new levels.

-I think something big that can be said is the importance of picking out a good set off Kill Streaks that will help with what playlist you are fighting in. If you are in HQ Pro do not under any circumstances use the EMP/Nuke kill streaks. Playing HQ is not trying for long streaks, so you would be much much much better off using the 2-7 kill streak rewards.

-You need to also have at all times one custom class that is equipped with a Anti-air rocket. These will help you take out the Choppers/AC-130's before they can wreck all hell on you.

-When playing any objective game- save up on your kill streak rewards until you are getting in position to attack/defend an objective. For instance if you are doing Sab make sure to save your chopper and Ac-130 until that moment when you are arming the bomb so you can rain hell from above and guarantee the win for your team.

-Don't underestimate the power of the Machine Pistols, the first one is epicly OP good. With Red Dot on the Machine Pistol it could pass for a SMG. The shotgun might entice you with the close range big power aspect, but the Machine Pistol has range/speed and it is well rounded.

-Use cover and be smart. If the enemy team has any chopper or air support then take cover and make your way to the enemy with cover over your head. Padding the enemies killstreaks will only make it harder for you.

-If you see your radar go fuzzy that means there is a guy near you with a jammer on. Using a jammer is nice so people don't know where you are, but they still know what general vicinity you are in. Use this against your opponents.

-Quick scoping and bringing up your sights seems to work out a lot better than steady aim. CoD4 steady aim was great and seemed to word a lot. In MW2 it doesn't seem as important. Work on your dropping to the ground while scoping in shot. Called a drop shot for your newbs-

-Always pick up a heart beat sensor weapon if you run over one or use that addon if you can. This is a GREAT way of knowing where the enemy is. And now while the game is still in its first stages no one is high enough level to have the Ninja perks to negate the effects of heart beat sensor. You can constantly be switching out the weapon with the heart beat and then switching back to your main weapon when you know where the enemy is. I think it only works to the front of you in a cone area so make sure to spin and check in all directions.

-You only have one grenade, use it wisely. Throw it near cars for the added explosion. Especially in Favala, at beginning of map rush the street that runs all the way up the map. On the top of that street there is a car, toss a nade there at the beginning of the map and you are bound to get a kill.

-Going prone is your friend. Do it and you are a smaller target. Camping halls and choke points is nice while prone. People look into the corners, but they sometimes miss the obvious player laying in the middle.



This is all I have for now- I want you guys to add in tips and legit tricks that will help out everyone in their quest to get better at this game. This game is like CoD4, but way different in many aspects and a thread like this can help us all.

I would love to get a little more information about the kill streaks and damage ratios for different weapons with Acog / Silencer / Holo / Red dot. If anyone has information about this stuff such as damage charts those would help us all as well.

Yeah, that usually happens when you lie down.

Most of what you said goes without saying. Players can pick up what you stated (the basics... they're not "pro tips") by playing for a little while.

Unfortunately none of those solve the piss poor hit detection in the game.

Anyway, great basic tips xVasilijex. Should help out alot of newbies to this game. Also, what are you talking about Gnels? The hit detection in this game is spot on.

Obviously a lot of this stuff is common sense, but do you know how often people don't do it? Christ. This thread isn't for the 'Pro' people to get better. I wanted you guys to add more stuff, instead of critiquing what I wrote. Eh.


- Something important that isn't being used enough yet is the Tactical insertion this equipment slot item allows you to spawn anywhere you put it at. What I try to do is flank around the enemy and then put the Tactical insertion in a corner and if I die, I am right back there without the long run. This item is very useful in HQ games where you can make sure to spawn back at the taken HQ.

-When sniping you should never stand still searching for an enemy. What you should be doing is crouching and then standing when your sights are leveled and popping up to stand for a second so just your head can be seen and then popping back down when you can't hold your breath any longer. This way you only take shots when you are holding your breath and you can only be seen on the top of your head every few seconds. Once you take a shot you crouch back down so you can't be shot at.

wow your a d!ck prince. the guy was trying to help people out. thanks for the tips! this is probably not news to fps vets, but with MW2 being such a huge game, im sure a lot of people are going to be searching for tips when it comes to online play. this thread will help a lot of new cod players.

Firstly, No. Camping sucks and every camper in the game is going to be either crouched or prone in a hallway which most players will aim low turning a corner.

Thats like saying "If you hear a gun being fired that means someone is shooting near you". Granted this is probably the most useful thing in your "Tips" but it would only be useful for someone playing the game for the very first time without ever reading about it.

I am gathering from your wide range of knowledge about how to use common sense in this game, Plus the fact that you refer to others as "Newbs" that you are an "Elitist".

Unfortunately I haven't found any good tips that I have not known before but I suppose I can give you thanks for trying and if you decide to post more "Tips" I will be sure to read them and hopefully learn something new.

For those who think tl;dr, here is a tip:

Play the game and practice.

A lot of the "Pro players" are just good through hours of practise.

There aren't any special tricks or pieces of knowledge that all the pros know and the newcomers don't.

Just play, play and play some more and you will become good. Simple as.

A few things i've noticed though:

1. Call of Duty games tend to favour defensive tactics. Like holding down a certain building. This will be more favorable than clearing out the building.

2. Go with what you're comfortable with. Some people will persist with guns they aren't good with because they see other do really well with them. Also don't be put off using some of the guns because some guy in the lobby was calling the gun or you a n00b for using it.

3. Find a play style that you are good with. I said defensive play is better than aggresive play but that's from my experience. You may find that playing slightly more aggresive is better for you.

But basically just play the game get used to it and you will see the improvement over time.
