Why is there an Odometer in the game? What is the point of them putting that in?

what's an Odometer?

Its the mileage meter. Is the odometer for the game an overall one? Or for each car? Either way, they may have put that in the game to track your useage of the game overall or how much you use a specific car. I think that is a pretty cool thing

good question maybe they put it in for realism . . . NFS Underground tracks miles for the overall game but they don't put an odometer in there

Well i guess nothing wrong with adding it as long as it don't affect gameplay. It's pretty cool.

It's not intrusive, so it is a nice touch.
It would be a bonus if something opened up after a certain ammount of mileage...

Gran turismo 3 had an odometer, which essentially had to tell you what car you used the most. I thought it would be something like...you use the car for so long, you might as well get another one. Possibly the same with pgr, but you dont really buy things in this game.

i think it adds a sence of realism to the game, i havnt seen anyother racing game with it

In GT3 it did have an alternate use, your odometer controlled the wear and tear on the engine. This making your car perform worse and worse. The only way to rectify it was to change the old oil!
Got a bit naughty on the endurance and F1 races !

I'm pretty sure the MSR/PGR1 had an odometer too, I guess it lets you know which car you've raced the furthest in.

The game uses it to tell you which car you drive most. If you go into the Options Menu and select Profile, you will see something which will say which car you drive most. My most driven is the Enzo. No online though.
