re: [Anime] 5 Centimeters Per Second - a chain of short stories about their distance |

Spoiler: Hopeful? Highlight this box with your cursor to read the spoiler text. Let's see, the love of his life got married, he quit his job, and lost everything in life that was beautiful. Where's the hope in that? It's not very hopeful as far as the relationships between the characters. I suppose you could say it's hopeful in that he still has a lot ahead of him and he can start anew with his life. How else? ![]() -------------------

Yeah, but I never really implied that they would get together. I tried to say that they would probably see each other again. So that's why I found it hopeful in that sense. =/

I sure can't wait for the DVD release in NA this winter! I think I'm going to check out his other work...

Same. I can't believe that I haven't yet. I did find the OST for this, which I'm proud of, because it took forever. Now I suppose I should check out some of the older films.

Yeah. I'm exited about it coming out to America. It'll be nice to hear it in English.
I also think that Voices of a Distant Star would be a good thing to watch, and I'm wondering if they'd include that on the disk. Probably not, though. Maybe they'll both come out in America. I just know that they're both his work. ------------------- ![]()

Voices of a Distant Star was great. Even greater, considering he did it all by himself on a Mac, and with a tight budget. Seriously I like the animation. Pretty well done. The plot was kind of similar to this anime, involving distance as an obstacle that separated people. I recommend it to anyone who liked this one. Anyways, I still prefer 5 Centimeters, as the animation was smoother, and the art was much more enjoyable.

I heard it wasn't as good as some of his other works, let alone this one. Separation is supposedly a common theme in many of his pieces though.

His other two works, Voices of a distant star and The Place Promised in our early days, are both already released in NA, Ive been trying to get a copy, but its not easy, and I refuse to resort to ebay.

Oh, they are already released? Interesting. I'll see what I can do to find one. Seperation may seem to be a common subject with him, but man, the anime always turns out great.

The voices are supposedly very well done in the NA versions. I really hope they keep up the trend on that. Are there threads for Shinkai's other animes?
@Suicide: Yeah, I know. He does well with that theme. I don't know if he's experienced it or if he just thinks about it a lot, but he knows it's effects well enough to write a very convincing story. ![]() -------------------
