Cool. I didn't like Voices much though. It's just not comparable to this one.

Thats for sure, this one was a little different from his past work, but it definitely was a positive change.

For certain. Yay NAMFox by the way, I now have my favorite line from the teaser trailer (which, btw the way, was a pain to put in kanji) is a custom message!

Ah yes.
At what speed must I live...to be able to see you again? Awesome line. I like the quote, which Nick here likes too, which is "Even if we were to exchange mail 1000 times, our hearts would not move closer 1 centimeter." Some lines from the song are awesome too. "I'm always searching for your figure, even though I know you won't be there." Truly deep. T_T I hope Shinkai does something better the next time. Now that he should have a fair budget (and possibly maneh, maneh Macs) to do something like this too. My expectations for his next production (if the will be one, not sure) is high after watching this anime.

"And one morning, when I at last came to the earnest realization... that I had lost everything that was beautiful, I knew I was at my limits, and quit the company." <-- I mentioned earlier that I loved that line right? That was among the best moments of the movie to me. I honestly think that final speech defines the conclusion excellently.
Beside that, it would have to be the scene in part two where Kanae finally manages to stay on her board again, that whole scene demonstrating her newly found confidence. Anyway, yeah, it was great in part because of what followed. But I won't go into that for those who haven't viewed it yet and because I'm lazy. ![]() ~ ど ん な ど の 速 さ で 生 き ん な... -------------------

You shouldn't ask this here. It's best if you ask someone through PM or something else. ~_^

Sorry for the double post but I felt the need to bump this. I just have to say: the dubbing is gonna make me cry. Unless by some miracle it improves before release, I'm going to be extremely disappointed. I watched the trailer released by ADV (watch here) and I almost died. It was probably the most misleading and cheesy trailer they could have made, and it revealed what I think was a very poor choice of voice actors. My expectations are shot right now. Any encouragement?

Err...ehe.
Ehe. Hmm...the voice actors aren't bad. At least it's not as bad as Naruto's dub. The guy's voice is too whisper-y and serious, and the girl's voice is too artificial. The script's meaning is changed. They rephrased some words. The girl's voice should have been his young one. =/ I don't know. The voices aren't really pleasing and kinda rough if you ask me. And you're right, the trailer is very misleading. It really doesn't grasp the idea of what the movie is really about. I miss teh movie narrator. It would have fit the part where they announce the movie more. =( Whyyyyyy... D:

I hate to conclude what the dub will say before it's fully released, but right now it sounds like they think it's about falling in love, purely. I really don't think 5 centimeters per second is "the speed at which you fall in love." That is nonsense. They start out in love and drift apart. There is absolutely no indication that they are actually drawing closer, and in fact, the evidence stands against that. I really hope they realize that at some point.
Anyway, I could get used to the voice actors if the script sounds right to me. Who knows, we don't know how they sound as children yet. Maybe it'll make up for the bad choice of adult voice actors. I really hope it turns out as well as the japanese version. It easily could. They did incredibly with "The Place Promised In Our Early Days." That had an excellent dub. Maybe 5cm/s will make a recovery as well. ![]() -------------------

True. It's actually the speed at which people grow apart. Besides "the speed at which you fall in love" doesn't really make so much sense as the drifting apart one, aside from the fact that it drifts from the original concept.
It could be possible that due to hearing the Japanese voice actors first, then listening to the Dubs, as they sound way too different, it's hard to get used to it. But a person which hasn't heard the Japanese voice actors and hears the Dub first might not mind, and it might seem perfectly normal. But, of course, we heard the Japanese one.

Yeah I know how it works. I can get used to most english voice acting over time. It's the translation and interpretation itself that I can never get used to. The fansubbers seem to do a much better job than the official script writers...

The dub does seem to be pretty bad but no matter how bad the dub is, I want them to release this in the UK as well so badly.

It's a bump BUT!
Just watched it, changed my desktop background as well! The graphics are absolutely beautiful <3. The story itself made me tear up at each individual episode and I really like it due to both characters being so sentimental about their first love. It's quite sad at how everything ends up but I enjoyed this ending because it's quite true in real life that one can relate to it. A very meaningful anime, that will linger in my mind for years to come <3. -------------------
