World Wrestling Entertainment vs Extreme Championship Wrestling
|
WrestleMania 24 It was far from a good night for ECW, as the man who took on Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Championship, was Kofi Kingston. Kofi Kingston was the highlight of ECW of the past few weeks, yet his momentum was stopped at the hands of Chavo Guerrero in general squashing him. Meanwhile, ECW's side of the Money In The Bank was also tore apart with the key highlights for both men being taking major bumps from Chris Jericho and Carlito, while Shelton Benjamin's amazing aerial ability and athleticism was put to waste, as Chris Jericho won the match.
One Night Stand 2008 Well, well, well, what a total disgrace. With Chavo Guerrero STILL ECW Champion, the crowd were already unhappy, but giving Tommy Dreamer a shot as his title managed to cheer them up, slightly. But seeing as John Cena and Triple H versus Randy Orton and Umaga was the main event, the crowd were far from happy. The whole main event (and show, for that matter) was filled with boos and not a single cheer, except when John Cena got RKO'd outside the ring. It seems WWE's plan to move the show to San Diego away from the Hammerstein Ballroom . . . to get away from boos . . . didn't really work out.
November 4th ECW Show The worst of the lot as the show contained a shocking one match, which was Chavo Guerrero & Elijah Burke vs CM Punk & Kofi Kingston, which ended in a DQ because of Burke nailing Kingston with Punk's briefcase. The show ended with major booing.
Armageddon 2008 Not a single match for the ECW brand, as played a part in a Champion's showcase match, and even then was the first person eliminated.
Royal Rumble 2009 Things looked promising for ECW as Elijah Burke won a triple threat match for the ECW Championship, defeating Chavo Guerrero and CM Punk. Come Royal Rumble time, no ECW star lasted over 20 minutes, the longest lasting superstar being John Morrison.
No Way Out 2009 A much more, respectful showing for the ECW brand, as Burke puts on a good match with Kane for the ECW title, while Miz and Morrison lose the tag titles against Jesse and Festus, in their first defence for THREE months.
WrestleMania 25 ECW features only a minor role at WrestleMania, with Morrison again in the MITB, CM Punk taking on Elijah Burke for the ECW title and Kane involved in a tag team match featuring men from all three brands.
Backlash 2009 Dreadful, absolutely dreadful, only Burke makes an appearance in a match versus Batista for the ECW title, which, thankfully, Burke wins by count-out.
Judgement Day 2009 Literally the end of it all. Batista defeats Burke to take the ECW title and destroy the brand, leaving there to be a draft on the next Raw to locate all ECW superstars, while many are expected to be realeased. Or so we thought...
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Paul Heyman. Heyman's the reason ECW are three letters than bond together. At the age of fourteen, Heyman suggested ideas to Vince McMahon about his company, while the ideas were good, Vince rejected them . . . and took them without any credit. Infuriating Heyman, as he got older, he made his own company. Something . . . different. E C Dubya. Extreme Championship Wrestling. While it wasn't as big as WCW or WWF in the '90s, it got it's share of discussion. ECW was all about extreme. That was, until, it was recognized. Bischoff and McMahon begin robbing it's superstars until it went bankrupt and faded away.
Then, in 2005, the idea of One Night Stand was introduced. WWE held a PPV in the Hammerstein Ballroom. ECW Originals on Smackdown and Raw began arguing and fueding with superstars on Raw and Smackdown, until Eric Bischoff, Raw's General Manager at the time banned anything ECW related. Eric Bischoff was to lead a Raw army into the show and crush ECW, while the ex-originals fought back. The event was bliss, it was fantastic, it was . . . ECW. Then as the year went on, in June, it was held again. The event was just as fantastic with RVD winning the WWE/ECW title, and it was revealed ECW was back as a weekly show. What a disaster, however, it turned out to be.
But, Heyman had seen enough of his creation timber out and be watered down like this. In the summer or 2009, Paul Heyman had a meeting with Vince McMahon about getting the rights to ECW once again, but it was unsuccesful. However, as the brand 'died', Heyman re-suggested his proposition, but this time? This time it was granted. Everything about ECW, it's name, it's intials, it's title names, everything, belonged the Paul Heyman. Three Months LaterBoom! Paul Heyman dragged ECW by the scruff of the neck, from what WWE turned it into back up the just below WWE in terms of ratings! ECW had a timeslot on Saturday nights, which was due to expire in a few months time, but it was destined to get a new contract. But that's not what Haymann wanted. Why settle for that? What he wanted was a timeslot, at 9PM EST time, 2AM GMt time, the same time as Monday Night Raw. 2 weeks laterAt first, Spike was unsure, was it worth the risk? After all, they could knock off USA Network, or just get destroyed in the ratings, but in the end, they gave ECW the go-ahead, in just 1 month, they'd be moving day and time to match Monday Night Raw. Seeing as news of this was already known my many, including Vince McMahon, could he afford to risk going toe to toe with ECW? Obviously not. Upon this, Vince came up with an idea. Merge both brands into one and let it compete with ECW, but with only a month to go, how could he come up with a good storyline for brands merging?1 month laterIt's Monday night, the first ECW show to compete with WWE, yes, you read correctly, not Raw, WWE. The brand merging was executed perfectly, and the time had come. The Monday Night Wars . . . are going to kick off again.

WrestleMania 24 The Raw and Smackdown side of things were the highlight of Wrestlemania, as per usual. Batista gave Smackdown a huge win over Raw, beating Umaga with a huge Batista Bomb. JBL and Finlay opened the night with a brutal Belfast Brawl, in which JBL came out on top.Matt Hardy made a return to screw MVP out of the MITB briefcase, with Chris Jericho picking it up. The triple threat match for the WWE Championship was an epic encounter of three huge superstars, John Cena, Randy Orton and Triple H. The rivalry's that all three of these men have shared were re-ignited, as Randy Orton came out on top with a deadly RKO to Triple H. Floyd "Money" Mayweather vs The Big Show. An easy match for the Big Show, surely? Surely Not. Floyd picked up a huge win after hitting Big Show repeatedly with a steel chair, then brass knuckles. Then, the match that stole everyone's heart. HBK vs The Nature Boy, Ric Flair. The match was a close encounter, with HBK mouthing "I'm sorry, I love You" to Ric across the ring, before ending Naitch's career with some Sweet Chin Music. Edge and The Undertaker had an epic battle, in which The Deadman won the World Title once again, and added another man to his Wrestlemania victims. 16-0.
One Night Stand 2008 The night of "Extreme" juts did not deliver in any aspect. The crowd in San Diego made life hard for every superstar, even Triple H. The Raw dominated math was the MAIN EVENT. The main event at an ECW PPV. As you probably guessed, the fans weren't too happy. Cena and Triple H took on Umaga and Orton, with the only cheer coming from an RKO onto Cena. Cena and Triple H picked up the win with Orton tapping to the STF-U
Armageddon 2008 The turning point of WWE as far as Raw is concerned, after Vince finally gave in to letting Triple H win the WWE Championship. HHH fought Orton in a Steel Cage, with blood flying everywhere. The Game picked up the win after a huge Pedigree. The fans were going wild, but the night was not over yet, as "Break the walls Down!" could be heard, and Y2J Chris Jericho sprinted to the ring, cashing in his Money in the Bank. Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho to pick up the win, and stole the WWE Championship.
Royal Rumble 2009 One of the biggest PPV's all year round, and it didn't disappoint. John Cena fought Triple H and WWE Champion Chris Jericho for the WWE Title, Jericho retaining via DQ, after Orton interfered. The Undertaker, who still held the World Heavyweight Championship, had two men to go through, JBL and Edge. Somehow, Undertaker retained the gold after Edge hit JBL with a Spear, and Taker took advantage by Chokeslam'ing the Rater R Superstar. The Royal Rumble itself was a huge success, after Umaga and Rey Mysterio started the match off, and lasted until the final four, being Umaga, Mysterio, HBK and Batista. Mysterio, HBK and Batista took advantage and eliminated Umaga, then HBK eliminated both Mysterio and Batista to win the Royal Rumble.
No Way Out 2009 The PPV that shook WWE, as both WWE titles were on the line. Both Raw and SD! main events would be Fatal-Four-Ways for their brands respective title. In the SD! Main Event, The Undertaker defeated Edge, Batista and Rey Mysterio, to walk into Wrestlemania as World Champion. On the Raw side of things, Triple H defeated Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and John Cena, to head to Wrestlemania 25.
WrestleMania 25 The grand daddy of them all, Wrestlemania. The Raw and Smackdown matches once again stole the show. The MITB was on first, with an amazing match being won by WWE‘s MVP……MVP. The Undertaker put two amazing streaks on the line. He still held the World Heavyweight Championship, lasting for nearly a year, and still had his perfect Wrestlemania streak, His opponent this year, Batista. The Undertaker added one more to his streak, but avoiding an attempted Spear, and hitting a Tombstone for 17-0. On the Raw side, Triple H went into Wrestlemania against a former friend, HBK Shawn Michaels. After winning the Royal Rumble HBK went on to prove who really was the better man from DX, by capturing the WWE Title on the grandest stage of them all.
Backlash 2009 After HBK‘s title win at Wrestlemania, Triple H wanted a piece of his former best friend, but the match was a non-title Steel Cage. Triple H won the match, but not the gold. Edge shocked the world by pinning The Undertaker 1...2.…3 inside the ring, but fortunately for the Deadman, it was a tag team match. Undertaker and Rey Mysterio lost to JBL and Edge after Edge pinned the champion. After the match, JBL and Edge wanted some more of Taker, but Mysterio saved the day.
Judgement Day 2009 MVP was picking his spot, picking his time to play the perfect move, and he did. After The Undertaker and Edge had yet another gruelling match, this time a Hardcore, Undertaker won the match, but left empty handed, as MVP cashed in his MITB contract, and hit the Playmaker on Undertaker, to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Batista won a belt of his own, the ECW world title, after destroying Elijah Burke, and killing ECW. A draft was announced for next week’s Raw.
After the year that had just unfolded, WWE were perfectly happy with themselves. They had made some good choices, maybe some bad ones too, but all in all, a good showing. That was, for everything except ECW. It was falling apart. They didn’t even have a World Title anymore thanks to Batista, and it was slowly but surely dragging WWE down with it. Vince had to act. Something had to be done. So, the only logical thing to do, was to kill ECW for good. But what about all the decent superstars, CM Punk, Shelton Benjamin, Elijah Burke. Vince thought of this being a big risk, so decided just to kill ECW, not the superstars. But then, that phone call came. That phone call that changed Sports Entertainment. Vince answered, and it was him. Paul Heyman. He had yet another proposal for Vince, to buy ECW. Not seeing this as a threat, Vince agreed. Later that week, Heyman came to Vince with a contract, which Vince signed. But once Vince went back over the contract, he realized he had lost everything within ECW. The rights, the names, the superstars. Everything. Vince demanded it back, but it was signed. Vince had to deal with it. A few weeks later, Vince realized his mistake truly, as he saw what time ECW was to air. 9PM EST time, 2AM GMT, the same time as Monday Night Raw. After a month or two of humiliation, Vince saw that ECW was giving Raw a hard time with the ratings, so he decided to merge Smackdown and Raw, to make Monday Night Raw, for yet another Monday Night War! Feel free to post now, crazy cats. And btw, I realize people will think it's overdone, but hopefully we can execute it well, and my other diary is still running.
