 There are many martial arts in the world. Boxing, Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, Capoeira, Judo, JuJutsu, Karate, Kickboxing, Mauy Thai, Sambo, Taekwondo and Wrestling, just to name a few. Typically in said arts, a boxer boxes fellow a boxer, a kickboxer kickboxes with a fellow kickboxer, a wrestler wrestles with a fellow wrestler and so on. But not in Mixed Martial Arts. The styles all mix and match with one another to create bouts where boxers can be taken to the ground, or a wrestler can be hit a left hook for example. And perhaps that's what makes the sport so entertaining for it's fans. That having a black belt in Judo or Jujutsu isn't enough. You need to be able to box your opponent, then leg-kick them, clinch them followed by a few names, score the takedown, transition around them on the ground and work a triangle choke. Mike Tyson can say he's one of the toughest men on the planet, but the fact he doesn't know what a Kimura is nevermind know how to escape one proves that he isn't, and is also proof the UFC is As Real As It Gets. | |

The following is a list of fighters currently in the UFC. Only the top 8 fighters in each division are ranked here. The fighters are listed in order of where they are ranked in the division [_ means the fighter is ranked equally with the person above him], with 1 being the champion in the division and 8 being the furthest away from a title shot. The number 1 contender for each title is the person ranked second in the division eg. Mauricio Rua is number one contender for the light heavyweight title. If the second place in a division is split between two fighters, it means there is no number 1 contender yet but these men will fight off for the spot eg. Cain Valasquez and Shane Carwin will fight, the winner getting a shot at Brock Lesnar. You move either up or down the division depending on how you and those around you fare inside the octagon.

UFC is definitely interesting. I love the sport and I'm hoping this diary lasts a while because it has promise.
