WWE: Fighting The War - Wrestlemania Posted

WWE: Fighting The War

Backstory:

On November 16th, 2006, TNA went primetime on Spike TV. They scored a relatively huge 3.0 rating and quickly won over many wrestling fans because of their superior in-ring product as well as newer, fresher storylines.

On the other hand, on November 5th, 2006, WWE got their one of their lowest buy rates in recent memory with Cyber Sunday. Their matches were incredibly predictable. In fact, some say the votes were rigged. Vince McMahon re-entered the D-X vs. Rated R-KO feud after being voted into the guest referee spot. The Spirit Squad retained against Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes, Jeff Hardy defeated Carlito, and Umaga continued his winning streak by defeating Kane. Finally, the main event went exactly as expected with John Cena's title on the line and him retaining the title.

Genesis went remarkably well for TNA. Headlined by Christian Cage versus Sting and Kurt Angle versus Samoa Joe, this PPV rivaled Bound for Glory in both purchases and matches quality.

Survivor Series featured a horrible main event where RAW's John Cena "overcame the odds" once again by single handedly defeating King Booker and the Big Show after D-X was eliminated due to interference by Vince McMahon and Rated R-KO. The buy rates were better than Cyber Sunday but were still low compared to most multi-brand Pay-Per-Views.

After all of this, the wrestling fans began to turn on the WWE and began moving to TNA. The change was coming slow but the flow was steady. Ring of Honor, smelling blood and the beginning of another wrestling war, snatched their first tv deal ever, signing with Sunsports to begin programming in 2007. When Total Non-stop Action's ratings continued to climb and RAW, ECW, and Smackdown's ratings all continued to fall, Vince McMahon was forced to open his eyes and see that TNA was on the verge of going global.

Vince realized that in order to defeat TNA in the upcoming war, he'd have to make sacrifices. He could no longer push wrestler's with little to no actual wrestling skills. His failed ECW experiment would have to go because of the drain on the road crew as well as the fans not wanting to watch five hours of WWE wrestling a week. Diva Search's would no longer help ratings since TNA was exposing the fans to actual wrestling. Even worse was the side effect of the Search which caused the WWE to have nearly no true wrestling women. Finally, Vince recognized the one thing that would immediately spike viewership and hopefully increase the chance of starting the war on the right foot. So, with these realizations in had, Vince began changes that would shake World Wrestling Entertainment to the core.

First, ECW was gone along with most of its roster. Sandman, Matt Striker, Mike Knox, Kelly Kelly, Ariel, Kevin Fertig, Trinity, Jazz, Rodney Mack, Balls Mahoney, Steven Richards, even the Big Show were all released from their. Only CM Punk, Rob Van Dam, Paul Heyman and Sabu remained.

Next, Vince fired all the divas who were no longer needed and retired the Women's Championship. Candice Michelle, Maria, Victoria, Mickie James, Torrie Wilson, and all the other divas. Melina and Lita were spared because of their being managers.

Third, Vince fired everyone who either couldn't wrestle well or weren't over enough with the fans. Great Khali, Viscera, Rene Dupree, Snitsky, Rob Conway, Mitch from the Spirit Squad, and the biggest sacrifice of all, Batista. All of them and more were fired from the WWE.

Finally, Vince McMahon made an announcement on the December 22nd episode of Smackdown. Billing it as an early Christmas surprise, Vincent Kennedy McMahon officially announced the end of the brand split. Starting on the first RAW of the new year, the brand split would officially end.

It is now January 1st, 2007. It is the beginning of a new year and it is the beginning of a new era of wrestling. TNA goes global on Thursday, preparing for on the road show tapings and television airings all over the world. WWE, on the other hand, has ended the brand split and finally has the tools to begin rebuilding itself as a serious wrestling product.

The war is only beginning. Will WWE continue its dominance over the wrestling world? Will TNA defeat the titan and become the new leading promotion? Or could an upstart ROH come from behind and defeat both of them? All that is known is that wrestling fans all over the world have finally gotten what they are longing for. The rebirth of the professional wrestling wars!

The Brand Split Gone
January 1st, 2007

Tag Team Title Unification
With RAW and Smackdown combining into a single entity, Vince McMahon decided that on this Monday's edition of RAW, the World Tag Team Champions, The Spirit Squad, will go two-on-two with the WWE Tag Team Champions, Paul London and Brian Kendrick. Which of these two tag teams will come out as the dominant duo and become the Undisputed Tag Team Champions?

Title Retirement
In another effort to bring more prestige to the current titles, this edition of RAW will have a "Loser's Title is Retired" match between Chris Benoit and Jeff Hardy. Will the charismatic enigma's high-flying antics win the day or will the rabid wolverine's technical skills keep Hardy grounded?

Grudge Match
With both sides holding wins over each other, Degeneration-X and Rated R-KO's blood feud is reaching the boiling point. On the first show of the new year, the Rated R Superstar Edge will be going one-on-one with the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels. Will the young Edge take down the future Hall of Famer?

Undisputed Champion
This Monday's RAW will go down in history as the first in year's where an Undisputed Champion is decided. WWE Champion John Cena held his title for the majority of 2006 while King Booker has retained his title through thick and thing since winning it at the Great American Bash. Which of these two will be crowned the Undisputed Champion going into the new year?

Scheduled Events:

Tag Team Unification Match

London and Kendrick vs. The Spirit Squad

Loser's Title Is Retired Match

Chris Benoit vs. Jeff Hardy

Special Appearence

Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms

Fatal Four-Way

Matt Hardy vs. CM Punk vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Rey Mysterio

Grudge Match

Edge vs. Shawn Michaels

Undisputed Championship

John Cena vs. King Booker

RAW (1/1/2007):

1. Rated R-KO/Degeneration-X confrontation.

The show opens with Degeneration-X mocking Edge and Randy Orton. Eventually Rated R-KO comes out and the two teams trade insults. A match is agreed upon between Edge and Shawn Michaels.

2. London and Kendrick vs. The Spirit Squad to unify the WWE Tag Team Titles and the World Tag Team Titles.

Paul London pins Mikey to give him and Brian Kendrick the win over The Spirit Squad to become the Undisputed Tag Team Champions after Johnny and Nicky accidently hit Mikey instead of London with a steel chair. As London and Kendrick exit the ring, the Spirit Squad argues amongst themselves.
Winners, and new WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions: London and Kendrick

3. Ken Kennedy vs. Eugene

A simple match with the usual spots by both men. Mr. Kennedy wins after Eugene attempted a stunner and Kennedy shoved him into the ropes, rolled him up on the rebound, and grabbed the tights.
Winner: Ken Kennedy

4. Gregory Helms Promo

Gregory Helms is in the ring and he talks about how he's defeated everyone in contention is for the title and brags about how he doesn't need to defend his title tonight because of this. Then, "The Final Countdown" plays and Bryan Danielson debuts. He says that Gregory has never defeated him so he'll take him on tonight for the Cruiserweight Title

5. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. Gregory Helms for the Cruiserweight Title

A high-flying back-and-forth match up between two of the best cruisers in the WWE. Danielson picks up the win by locking Helms into the Cattle Mutilation and getting the submission win. Afterwords, Danielson celebrates title win to the delight of the crowd.
Winner, and new WWE Cruiserweight Champion: "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

6. Benoit and Mysterio meet up backstage

Rey Mysterio is walking backstage when he bumps into Chris Benoit. Mysterio tells Benoit good luck in his match against Jeff Hardy tonight. Benoit tells him he doesn't need luck and walks off leaving Mysterio looking confused.

7. CM Punk vs. Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Rey Mysterio

An amazingly fast-paced match. Lots of high-flying action as four of the quickest superstars in the business take each other on. End of the match comes when Matt hits a Twist of Fate on Mysterio, Shelton hits a T-Bone on Hardy, and CM Punk hits the Yurinagi-into-Anaconda-Vice combo on Benjamin for the submission victory.
Winner: CM Punk

8. Chris Benoit vs. Jeff Hardy in the "Loser's Belt Is Retired" match

The two mid-card champions go toe to toe in a great match. Jeff displayed his high-flying technique hitting most of his best moves but Benoit's powerful technical wrestling helped counter the speedier of the two Hardy boys. Benoit gets the win after rolling out of the way of a Swanton Bomb and then locking in the Crippler Crossface. After the match, Jeff Hardy attempts a handshake but Benoit just leaves with his title.
Winner, and still United States Champion: Chris Benoit

9. King Booker's Royal Proclamation

King Booker claims that tonight he will defeat the peasent John Cena. He says that tonight is the night that he will expand his Smackdown kingdom into the land of RAW. Booker says that Cena will feel the ax kick fall around his neck and that he will not only be Cena's king but also his executioner.

10. Edge vs. Shawn Michaels

The Rated-R Superstar fairs surprisingly well against the Heart Break Kid and the two go at it for a long match. It looks like Edge is going to get the win after hitting a huge Spear while Michaels was busy "tuning up the band". However, Shawn is able to kick out and the match continues. The end comes when HBK dodges a Spear and then hits a Sweet Chin Music when Edge turns around. Michaels goes for the cover but the referee suddenly finds himself pulled out of the ring and knocked out by Randy Orton. The Legend Killer then slides into the ring and delivers a RKO to the Heart Break Kid before dragging Edge on top of him. A referee runs down to the ring and Edge gets the win. Rated R-KO then try to beatdown HBK but Triple H makes the save, bringing his sledgehammer with him and sending Edge and Randy Orton scrambling.
Winner: Edge

11. John Cena vs. King Booker

A surprisingly good match, Cena and Booker both showed why they were champions in this match-up. The match ended when Cena hit the shoulderblocks and the five-knuckle shuffle before going for the F-U. However, Booker is able to roll over Cena's head, slug him in the face, and went for a huge axe kick only to be grabbed again and given a huge F-U. Cena went for the cover and got the win to become the first WWE Undisputed Champion in over three years. This didn't sit well with King Booker and while John Cena was celebrating, the former World Heavyweight Champion attacked him. The two ended up brawling all the way up the ramp as RAW faded to black.
Winner, and new WWE Undisputed Champion: John Cena

Quick Results:

1. London and Kendrick defeat The Spirit Squad to become the Undisputed Tag Team Champions
2. Ken Kennedy defeats Eugene
3. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson defeats Gregory Helms to become the WWE Cruiserweight Champion
4. CM Punk defeats Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and Shelton Benjamin
5. Chris Benoit defeats Jeff Hardy to retire the Intercontinental Championship
6. Edge defeats Shawn Michaels with help from Randy Orton. Rated R-KO attempts a beatdown but Triple H makes the save
7. John Cena defeats King Booker to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.

1. RAW debuted a new layout at their last show and WWE officials have stated that it will be used at all of their shows due to ease of use.

What do you think of this new layout?

2. There's a rumor that the WWE is looking for independent talent to bolster its ranks for its war with TNA.

Who do you think the WWE should sign?

3. The latest edition of RAW is the first since the brand-split ended and the first show since WWE decided to bolster its defenses for an encroaching TNA.

How well did the first edition of RAW go? What sort of problems would you tell the WWE to fix if you could?

Moving On...
January 5th, 2007

Undefeated
CM Punk has been undefeated since he first debuted in ECW last year. His streak continued when he jumped to RAW after the Extreme ship sank into the ocean of cancellation. On the Friday's Smackdown, he will go one-on-one with the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Gregory Helms. Will Helms end Punk's winning streak or does the ex-champion have nothing but an Anaconda Vice in his future?

High-Flying Fight
Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio don't have much of a past with each other but this week on Smackdown, they will go one-on-one in a friendly match to see who is the better of the two high risk wrestlers. Will it be Mysterio's luchadore style or Hardy's unorthadox abilities that wins the day?

ECW! ECW! ECW!
For the first time on Smackdown, this week we will be seeing an ECW exhibition. Ever since the second death of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Rob Van Dam and Sabu have had to adjust to the different climate that they found in the WWE. However, they will return to their roots this Friday and face each other in an Extreme Rules match. Will Rob Van Dam frog splash his way to victory or will Sabu be suicidal, homicidal, and genocidal enough to defeat the former WWE Champion?

Hatred
Little can be said about the hatred that runs deep between Rated R-KO and D-X. Both teams hold various victories over the other. Another intense rivalry brewing in World Wrestling Entertainment is the one between King Booker and John Cena. We have recieved word that all six of these men will be facing off in a three-man tag team match at Smackdown. Will the team of Randy Orton, Edge, and King Booker cheat their way to victory or will Degeneration-X and John Cena have something to say about that?

Scheduled Matches

Singles Match
Eugene vs. William Regal

WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship Match
London and Kendrick (c) vs. The Spirit Squad

Singles Match
Gregory Helms vs. CM Punk

ECW Exhibition
Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam

Singles Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio

Six-Man Tag Team Match
Rated R-KO and King Booker vs. Degeneration-X and John Cena
