![]() Smackdown (1/5/2007): 1. Backstage with John Cena John Cena is backstage with Todd Grisham. The interviewer asks Cena how he's doing tonight after having just become the new WWE Undisputed Champion. Cena makes fun of Grisham asking such a dumb question but answers that the champ is here and that he's here to stay. Grisham then asks how he feels about having to take on King Booker, Edge, and Orton tonight. Cena launches into a rap about the trio, making fun of Booker's fake english accent, Edge constantly losing the WWE title, and Orton's lack of any title reigns in the last several months. 2. William Regal vs. Eugene A very good match between Eugene and his former manager. At first Eugene acted happy to see Regal but after William cheap shotted the "special" wrestler, Eugene's attitude towards Regal changed. The end of the match came when Regal took the covering off one of the turnbuckles, therefore distracting the referee. The two brawled for a bit but eventually Eugene was knocked down and Regal pulled a pair of brass knuckles out of his pockets. Just as the British wrestler was about to put the knuckles on, the referee turned around and caught him. Regal and the ref began to argue and Eugene capitalized by quickly rolling up his former mentor for the three count. Winner: Eugene 3. Gregory Helms Demands a Re-match Gregory Helms enters the ring to chants of "You Tapped Out". Helms quickly launches into a rant about how Bryan Danielson defeating him was nothing more than dumb luck. Helms says that he was the longest reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion and that he will make sure that Danielson has one of the shortest reigns. Gregory begins demanding that he have his re-match at RAW next week when "No Chance" plays over the speakers. The crowd boos at Vince who simply ignores it. The chairman says that while Gregory will be getting a re-match, that it will not be at RAW but instead it will be at the Royal Rumble. Mr. McMahon also tells Helms that he has something more important to worry about at the moment. "This Fire Burns" begins to play and McMahon passes by CM Punk as he heads to the back. 4. CM Punk vs. Gregory Helms Two of the best young stars in the WWE today go one-on-one for the first time. The fans didn't know who to cheer for at first but they ended up siding with Punk because of Helms' arrogant promo that happened just before the match. Punk gets the win after hitting the Shining Wizard and then locking in the Devil Lock for the first time on WWE television. Winner: CM Punk 5. Debut Video "Sincerely, Ichabod" by Project 86 plays in the background as a video begins. With nothing showing but black, words begins to flash on the screen. "Intelligent, unfeeling, athletic, uncaring, mechanically precise, no soul" Suddenly a strobe light begins to flash in the video and you can just make out a flickering silhouette before the light turns off. Then four words appear across the screen: "Paul Burchill is Coming." 6. London and Kendrick vs. The Spirit Squad London and Kendrick face off with the Spirit Squad for the second time this week with the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Titles on the line. Great tag team action, it is important to note that Kenny and Mikey were once again wrestling for the Spirit Squad this week. Johnny and Nicky were both sent backstage after pulling Brian Kendrick off of Mikey during a pin attempt. As Johnny and Nicky are heading up the ramp, Kendrick hits a Sliced Bread #2 and retains the titles. As London and Kendrick pose for the crowd, two men from the crowd jump the barricades and enter the ring. One is wearing a suit and the other has on a blue t-shirt with a Superman-style emblem on the inside but instead of the letter "S" there are the letters "CH". The two men immediately take down the celebrating Paul London and Brian Kendrick with a pair of vicious clothesline. Then, the one in a blue shirt hits a spinning double legdrop on the incapacitated Mikey while the man in the suit flips Kenny into the ring. The suited man picks up Kenny by the legs and helps his partner hit a modified rolling cutter. The two leave the ring but then notice Johnny and Nicky watching them from the top of the ramp. The two newly debuted stars fake a rush towards them and sends the two remaining members of the Spirit Squad scrambling backstage. Winners, and still WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions: Paul London and Brian Kendrick 7. Number One Contender? Chris Benoit is walking backstage with his United States Championship over his shoulder. Rey Mysterio walks up to him and congratulates him on being able to hold onto his title. When Benoit keeps walking, Mysterio looks confused and follows. Rey says that Vince has just told him that his match with Jeff Hardy is a number one contender's match for the United States Championship. Benoit spins around and looks at Rey oddly before entering his locker room and shutting the door. 8. Rey Mysterio vs. Jeff Hardy to become #1 Contender for the United States Championship A high-flying spectacle, Hardy and Mysterio gave it their all in the ring. The fans immediately split between Jeff and Rey but there was more chanting for Rey. Lots of high spots with Hardy hitting his Whisper in the Wind and his running along the barricade spot while Rey was able to hit a West Coast Pop for the first time in a long while on WWE television. Hardy picks up the win after moving out of the way of a 619, hitting a Twist of Fate, and then connecting with the Swanton Bomb. Jeff then helps Rey to his feet and the two shake hands before leaving the ring. Winner: Jeff Hardy 9. Rob Van Dam vs. Sabu These two put on yet another classic that leave many wondering why the second coming of ECW wasn't more like this. Tables, ladders, garbage cans, various signs, and steel chairs were all used in this match. Sabu was able to hit his Triple Jump Moonsault but Van Dam kicked out at the last moment. Sabu then immediately went to the top turnbuckle to attempt an Arabian Facebuster but Van Dam rolled out of the way before capitalizing and hitting a Rolling Thunder. One Five-Star Frog Splash later and the match is over with Rob Van Dam getting his hand raised. Winner: Rob Van Dam 10. Are You Ready? Shawn Michaels and Triple H are backstage with Todd Grisham. They insult the interviewer before shilling Degeneration-X merchandise, only available at WWE Shop. The pair then launch into their usual shenanigans when Lita walks by. D-X immediately pounces on the opportunity to insult someone close to their opponents. They do the usual "Lita = Slut" insults and Triple H throws in some dirtier jokes which elicits a displeased look from Michaels. The segment ends when Lita goes running off to Edge while Triple H and Shawn Michaels laugh their heads off at her reaction to their taunts. 11. Rated R-KO/King Booker vs. Degeneration-X/John Cena The fans were incredibly hot for this main event match up. The crowd booed the snot out of the heels and the roof absolutely flew off the arena when D-X and John Cena made their way to the ring. The match was made up of cheating tactics by Edge and Orton, lots of Cena/Booker face offs ending with Booker tagging out to one of the members of Rated R-KO, and Triple H crotch chopping several times at Lita. Shawn is in the ring with Randy Orton at one point and Orton is able to hit an RKO on HBK. He goes for the cover but Cena breaks up the pin. King Booker enters the ring and the two end up brawling all the way up the ramp. With Randy Orton stalking him all the way, Michaels makes reaches his feet. Orton goes for an RKO but gets shoved off by Michaels into the ring ropes. Shawn hits huge Sweet Chin Music as Orton rebounds off the ropes. He then notices that Triple H is stalking Lita around the ring, crotch chopping at her. The Heart Break Kid doesn't look happy about this, and neither does the ref who is trying to stop Hunter, but when HBK turns back around to cover Orton, he gets hit with a steel chair by Edge. The Rated R Superstar drags his partner onto Michaels and exits the ring to help his girlfriend. Triple H gets back in the ring just moments to late and Rated R-KO wins again as Smackdown fades to black. Winners: Rated R-KO and King Booker Quick Results: 1. Eugene defeats William Regal 2. CM Punk defeats Gregory Helms 3. London and Kendrick defeat The Spirit Squad to retain the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Titles 4. Jeff Hardy defeats Rey Mysterio to become the number one contender of the United States Championship 5. Rob Van Dam defeats Sabu 6. Rated R-KO and King Booker defeat Degeneration-X and John Cena

The latest edition of RAW is the first since the brand-split ended and the first show since WWE decided to bolster its defenses for an encroaching TNA. How well did the first edition of RAW go? ![]() RAW (1/8/2007): 1. Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Benoit for the United States Championship RAW opens with another great match by these two and the contrast of their two styles actually caused the match to turn out better instead of worse. Benoit took control early in the match and kept Hardy grounded for most of the early going. However, when Benoit attempted a trivesta of german suplexes, Hardy was able to escape the second suplex and a quick dropkick turned the tides of the match. With control firmly on his side, Jeff ended up hitting a Twist of Fate and climbing the turnbuckle. With Jeff in mid-Swanton, Benoit rolled out of the way and Hardy crashed and burned. Benoit quickly capitalized and locked the Hardy brother in the Crossface and after some struggling by Jeff, Benoit picked up the submission win the exact same way he did when he defeated Jeff the first time. Winner, and still United States Champion: Chris Benoit 2. Your Hero We return from commercial break to find Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli backstage with Todd Grisham. Todd asks them who they are why they're here in World Wrestling Entertainment. They laugh loudly before answering the question. Hero takes the lead and says that they are the Kings of Wrestling. Hero says that they are the Kings of Wrestling because they have held tag team titles that are so prestigious that the idiots in the crowd have never even heard of them and if the titles' names were spoken, it would blow everyone in the crowd's minds. No, literally, the titles are so amazing that if the idiot fans sitting in the stands and watching at home heard the names of the titles the Kings of Wrestling had held, they're heads would explode, so the Kings won't say them because they don't want to be charged with mass murder, at least, that's what Hero claims. Chris then continues and says that Claudio and himself are in the WWE becuase there is only one pair of tag team titles they want to add to their impressive resumes and those titles are the Undispute Tag Team Championships. Claudio says that while the Undisputed Tag Team Titles are a step down from the titles they have held in the past, as soon as the Kings of Wrestling get their hands on the titles, their worth will sky rocket. Hero then says that tonight all the fans will see their hero go out into the ring and pick up his first win in the WWE. 3. Paul London vs. Kenny vs. Chris Hero Paul London and Brian Kendrick make their way to the ring to the fanfare of the crowd and their titles around their waists. All four members of the Spirit Squad then come down the ramp and get the snot booed out of them. However, when the Kings of Wrestling come out to "We Are The Champions", they really get the crowd hot. Acting superior to everyone there and turning up their noses whenever a fan reaches out to try and touch them, Claudio and Hero survey their opponent's before everyone but London, Kenny, and Hero are forced to leave the ring by the referee. The match itself is quite good and Hero impresses many with his high-flying maneuvers. Kenny is knocked outside early and attended to by the other members of the Spirit Squad while London and Hero fight their way around the ring. The end of the match comes when Kenny enters the ring and low blows Paul London while the referee isn't looking. Brian Kendrick immediately jumps onto the apron to talk to the referee which allows Nicky from the Spirit Squad to enter the ring with a steel chair. He and Kenny immediately go after Hero who dodges them before taking both men down with a double clothesline. Nicky and Kenny both recover quickly and Nicky swings at Hero with the chair. However, Hero ducks and Nicky's chair connects with Kenny's forehead. Claudio pulls Kendrick off the apron and points the ref into the ring where he sees Hero covering Kenny and makes the three count. Winner:Chris Hero 4. I'm Straight-Edge... CM Punk is backstage in front of a bland white wall. He starts talking about how he has been undefeated on RAW and that he will continue his streak tonight when he face Rob Van Dam. He calls RVD nothing more than a wasted wrestler who stumbles to the ring after having a smoke and then puts on crappy matches to try and entertain the fans. Punk says that he's better than Van Dam because he doesn't waste his time and money on drugs. He finishes by saying that he's straight-edge and that means he's better than Van Dam and it certainly means that he's better than you. 5. Paul Burchill vs. Super Crazy Super Crazy enters the ring to small pop before the entire arena goes silent. "Off with you're head!" Sincerely, Ichabod blares over the speakers and Paul Burchill makes his way to the ring for his RAW debut. Burchill systematically destroys Super Crazy and the match ends nearly as soon as it begins when Burchill hits Crazy with a C-4 for the three count. Paul then spits on Super Crazy and leaves the ring to the boos of the fans. Winner:Paul Burchill 6. Why Wait? Degeneration-X makes their way to the ring after the commercial break. They immediately begin trashing Orton and Edge, as usual. The legendary duo finish by calling out Rated R-KO for a pre-match brawl. Metalingus plays and Lita comes out to confront Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Lita says that Edge and Orton will defeat D-X but they won't mind having the chance to kick the crap out of them a bit early. Edge and Orton then try and sneak attack D-X from behind as they run-in from the crowd but Triple H and Michaels expected it. The teams then brawled around the ring until security split them up. 7. Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk A match that some have been waiting for since Punk debuted on ECW, this fight between RVD and CM was easily one of the best of the night. Lots of high-flying action and some absolutely brutal kicks were exchanged between these two wrestlers. Van Dam had Punk on the ground after a wheel kick to the back of the head and hit a big Rolling Thunder on his straight-edge opponent. RVD then began pantomiming smoking before climbing to the top turnbuckle and doing his "Rob Van Dam" taunt. Just when he was about to leap, Punk rolled out of the ring onto the ground. Rob shrugged his shoulders and turned around, preparing to frog splash CM on the outside. However, Punk suddenly jumped up, climbed the turnbuckle behind Van Dam, and began to punch away at RVD's head. Rob ended up ducking his head down to defend against Punk's blows but this played directly into his opponent's hand as Punk grabbed Van Dam and gave him a Pepsi Plunge off the top rope. With the crowd in awe, Punk picked up the three count and yet another victory in his WWE career. Winner: CM Punk 8. Contemplating... Rey Mysterio is walking backstage when he sees Benoit sitting on a chair looking thoughtful. Mysterio walks over and gives Benoit a friendly slap on the shoulder. However, Benoit doesn't even look up. Rey starts congratulating Chris about his match but Benoit continues to give off no reaction. Mysterio shrugs his shoulders and says that he'll talk to Benoit later. As Mysterio walks off, Benoit continues to stare at the wall with his hands steepled in front of him and his elbows on his knees. The camera follows Rey as he walks away, right past Burchill and Eugene. Eugene appears to be trying to talk to Burchill but you can tell that Burchill couldn't give a crap what Eugene's prattling on about as we cut to commercial break. 9. John Cena vs. Finlay Pure brawling with the usual interference by Finlay's Little Bastard and Cena's normal wrestling spots. Cena got control of the match with a pair of shoulderblocks and a five-knuckle shuffle but when he hit Finlay with an F-U and covered him, he noticed the referee wasn't counting the pin. The champion got up and saw the ref being assaulted by Little Bastard but when he tried to get involved, he was attacked from behind by King Booker. When Cena turned around to fight back, Booker hit the Book End and the Ax Kick before dragging Finlay on top of Cena and rolling out of the ring. The leprechaun stopped messing with the ref who turned around and gave Finlay the three count. Booker then re-entered the ring, helped Finlay to his feet, and the pair immediately began beating down John Cena until security ran in and forced them out of the ring. Winner: Finlay 10. What The Hell? We see Todd Grisham walking backstage, muttering to himself something that sounds like "Interview, interview, must interview". He passes by Benoit who is still hasn't moved. Suddenly, Grisham trips and ceases his murmuring to look at what he tripped over. We see Eugene laying there with a pool of blood around his head. Todd crouches down and says "Interview?" before realizing that Eugene can't give an interview at the moment but could if the paramedics resuscitated him. So Todd rushes off to get the medical workers while Eugene continues to lay unmoving on the cold ground. 11. Rated R-KO vs. Degeneration-X D-X and Rated R-KO both come out to the ring in street clothes. Lots of brutal action as the match quickly devolves into a fight around the outside of the ring. Edge ends up facing off with Michaels while Orton is busy going one-on-one with Triple H. At one point it looks like Edge has the win after Lita snuck up behind Michaels and gave him a low blow, allowing her boyfriend to hit a Spear on the Heart Break Kid. However, by the time the Rated R Superstar rolls Michaels into the ring to attempt the pin, Triple H has knocked down Orton and breaks up the pin attempt. D-X then slowly takes back control and the brawl spills back outside of the ring. The end of the match finally comes after Triple H starts following Lita around the ring. However, Michaels gets in his way with a disapproving look on his face only to be attacked by Edge from behind. Edge and Shawn begin brawling around the outside of the ring when Orton sneaks up on Triple H and hits an RKO on him from out of nowhere before rolling The Game into the ring. Triple H struggles to his feet only to be met with another RKO by Orton. Edge and HBK are still busy brawling outside the ring when Orton gets the pinfall victory. Winners: Rated R-KO Quick Results: 1. Chris Benoit successfully defended his United States Championship against Jeff Hardy 2. Chris Hero defeated Kenny and Paul London 3. Paul Burchill DESTROYED Super Crazy 4. CM Punk defeated Rob Van Dam 5. Finlay defeated John Cena 6. Rated R-KO defeated Degeneration-X
