Shoddy Battle is an absolutely free program.
It does not require a DS and WiFi.
Friend codes are not necessary.
The program will not let you use illegal Pokemon (overhacks don't exist)
Shoddy uses Java, and will run on almost any computer.
Normal battles should take place on the Smogon server.
Here, you can post things like interesting Battle Logs, and discuss them. Battle requests for Shoddy should be placed here as well. If you need any help with the program or its interface, this is the place to post.

Hey guys, just popping in for a bit with a request that you keep a closer eye on character limits in your posts. The total number of characters allowed in a post is 65,535. This includes spaces and any markup, spoiler tags or whatever. Because of this, be very careful when posting Shoddy logs as they can get very lengthy very quickly. As we've seen from Zarathustra recently, going over the character limit, especially using spoiler tags, has some very undesirable effects on a thread. If you're going to post logs, try to keep it to two per post. Three or four are fine if you're posting only snippets or the battles were very short, but logs of any real length should be limited to one or two per post to avoid running into the character limit issue again. I've managed to fix the thread by editing out the last log Zarathustra posted, but it gets annoying having to do that every time.
If your battle gets too long, put the first half in one post, with the second part in the next like shown here and (more extremely) here. In cases like this, Double Posting is perfectly acceptable.

I also occasionally log on to various alts to test things without tainting my competitive rating estimate. I don't play as much as I used to, or I hadn't been on shoddy for about 2 months prior to logging in yesterday. However, with the recent quarter just ending, I have more free time, as next quarter all my classes are online. As such, I'm trying to get back into the game.
I've recently started logging on more. Only for about 2 weeks or so, excluding these last...3-4 days, I've been battling every morning.
