General Discussion [On-Topic] Version I -|- Floating cities, in the sky

This is a general on-topic discussion, so please make sure to keep your posts on topic.

This game seems very simiar to Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter in that it has an underground city, due to the lands being poisioned, and that there's a strange girl that is vulnerable.. yadda yadda.

What are your thoughts?

It looks like FFX-2 if it were one player and the main character is a guy but it obviously is going to be heaps better.

I wonder if there are going to be any "creatures" in the game, rather than the soldiers they have already showed.

It reminds me of a final fantasy game yet with guns. It look pretty awesome from the trailer, I hope it is a good game.

I would assume so. Perhaps demons, etc? I think the setting may have room for a lot of heavy religious references too.

Guns as the primary weapon in an RPG worries me. We have yet to see gameplay footage i think, so I cannot judge, but Dirge of Cerberus keeps coming to mind gameplay wise.

The story of this game really seems to be a strong one though, and I love good stories

Cant go wrong with a good story

Hopefully they wont let us down. I just dont want to get to hyped up and get disapointed in the end. But from what they have shown, it looks good so far.

Doesn't necessarily mean that the battle system will be FPS though. Guns as a main source of weapon, can also come across effectively in an RPG style battle system.

Let's just hope that that's the way it goes.

well, i know that it does not have to be an FPS, and I am not expecting it to be, but guns in an RPG have only worked for Valkyria Chronicles

Incorrect.

Guns have indeed worked in a lot of games.

Look at Final Fantasy VIII for example. Irvine has a gun, and it isn't impractical.

What about Shadow Hearts? Or even Shadow Hearts: From the New World? Guns work well with the characters who use them.

Vincent in Final Fantasy VII also uses a pistol.

So, what's the problem?

I do know those characters, but Vincent was an optional character and Irvine was not the main character.

Guns look to be not only with the main character, but all the characters look to have guns as their weapons (unless the girl is some type of magic user)

I wouldn't worry about this game being like Dirge of Cerberus. This game is primarily an RPG. DoC was primarily a (terrible) third-person shooter. They were two completely different genres.
Whether they use shoot their enemies or slash their enemies, the gameplay will still be the same.

Whether the character be a main character or not, should not matter. It's simply just a matter of selecting the Attack command, and the character will pull the trigger automatically. Or one of the trigger buttons could have the character shooting mulitple shots for an attack turn.

I know this isn't the case, as the battle system has already been explained in Ros' other thread. However the principle is, a weapon like a gun can funtion in an RPG without it becoming a third person shooter and in effect can even work within a turn based battle system as it has in other games through the years.

Another example would be Wild Arms 3 - all characters used guns as their main weapon.

Yoshino makes a point, but having a fully voiced English track would be nice option too since, you know, this is going to be released in the West.
