That actually is Chapter 3. Chapter 4 is the one where you have to wipe out Michael Chain and his gang of 29 Wild Boars before reaching the end of the stage-somewhat reminiscent of the "Death Race" from F-Zero X.

I've been experimenting with that "Snaking" technique on Chapter 5, and while I notice that if you do it occasionally you get a quick boost at first, the reward still doesn't justify the risk to me.

So... That "snaking" technique didn't work..?

Im trying on chapter 5 on v hard but i always crash

Well, not for me...yet. I'm still in the early stages of experimenting. It sure doesn't help me grab every Energy Tank, though-once that happens I know I'll win because I'm just one boost short at the end when time runs out.

Yes. I've already cleared it on Normal & Hard. Compared to Hard, I need to improve my best time by about 1.8 seconds. Right now I usually come up between 500-800m short on my best run-I can get through all the gates clean but I just miss one tank at some point, usually near the end. And because I hit the dash zones usually when the timer's hit 0, I can't get the speed boost I need.

I always had similar problems, but mine were due to being just slightly off-center going up the ramp and either having no energy or not enough time to get back up the ramp and make it out.

mine is about 1/3 through the race one of the corners i nearly always lose speed on it and blow up

That sounds like one of the diagonals. They come in a way that (assuming you're on the bottom for the tank) one opening is in the bottom left corner, the next one in the lower right.

and also the other machines get in the way

There are no machines on Chapter 5. You're only racing the clock.

Wow, I beat Chapter 5 on Very Hard with a time of 40.283 but it's wierd though. I should have lossed but I didn't.

It looked like the Door Smashed me and I thought I lost but it said "Mission Cleared!" and then I froze...

WOO HOO!

Note- For me I held UP on the Stick when I boost (but mainly the entire time) it does make a difference. You can tell cause you're car zooms forward and when it goes back, the car lifts up.
