My issues with this game |
|
I started this thread to complain about the first topic...but I was overcome with other topics to complain about, so I made it a general complaining thread to get it off my thread. Here goes:
It seems like every time you begin a setting, if you want to do it with traction control off and with a manual transmission, you have to set it. For every single challenge. You can't set it as your preferred setting and save it, it doesn't even carry over between challenges. God that's annoying. It doesn't seem right. Is there really no way to save these settings? What's with the challenges? Are there really no races you have to do to pass? Do you even ever have to race an opponent? That's not racing, that's pathetic. That's just license challenges, which much of the world hates. What happened to the aptly name GRAN TURISMO MODE ? So certain dealers are available on certain days. Why does it take so many screens and so much loading to get back to the main screen after completing a challenge to find out? This game sure does a good job of distancing us from buying cars...as well as actual races... Why does the game have directional up and down for change gear? They should be the shoulder buttons. Otherwise it's impossible to change gear while in a corner, what on earth were they thinking? The right shoulder is hand brake, that should be circle...and X and circle should NOT both be mapped to accelerate. Who needs two accelerators? More importantly, who needs two accelerators more than they need to change gear while turning? Some of the replay buttons don't appear to work. When I press up or down on the d-pad it says "switch chase cam", like it would for all other buttons that do something, but nothing actually happens. I wholeheartedly agree with you on every point you made. I didn't even have to race and I had 600,000 credits. I loved in the old games struggling to buy myself something like a dodge viper and loving it after i finally got it. Now after 1 day of play I can buy myself a 1 million dollar super car.
The actual racing is good and i enjoy racing with the cars. The 4 manufacturers per day is annoying because i have to do more races than I want to just to buy the car I want. The game is not by any stretch a bad game but they advertised it as not a spin off game, hence the name change, but it really feels like a major downgrade to me. ------------------- The Classic Gamer's Society. I dunno about not saying it's a bad game. It really has some serious issues. There's just not much to do! And the things like the menu annoyances and the stupid default controls just make it look incredibly unpolished.
Of course, things like the write-ups about each car, the graphics, physics, car models and tracks are absolutely fantastic (especially the physics)...but none of that matters as much if there's nothing to do, and other parts of the game feel uncompleted. I'm hoping the joy of buying and driving all my favourite cars, coupled with the great driving physics will keep me going, but I'm not so sure. And you're right, that Kazunori Yamauchi kept telling us it was a full GT game...but without the standard GT career mode that has been present in the last 4 games...The last 4 console best-selling, award winning games...It's really not. -------------------

I guess the fact that it is so incredibly easy to get everyones favorite cars is a plus for those who just want to turn it on and have a quick race with a great car. But I would have liked a challange so it felt like I earned my favorite car. You earn way too much for winning a race.

i agree with you a lil' villevalo, i was surprised to find the button i was pressing for hand break wasn't actually doing anything - you can change the setup though. you will find that the challenges do progress to competitive race style events further through, and they do get difficult - especailly if you're trying to make all gold. when you say 'there's not much to do' you mean apart from racing?! i agree there are 1 or 2 things missing - tuning uprgrades to name one - but the essence is still very much present and it is still the better handheld racer by a racing mile. career mode i am happy to do without, i can motivate myself, like saving 5mil to buy the polyphony F1 car imao.

i gotta question though... if making a car a favourite allows 'quick' tune, how does one tune a car otherwise - i could really do with being able to change the gear setups on some of my cars.. TVR Speed 12 should do 300mph+ on the test track, not top out at 228mph!!

My settings save They are license tests, If you want to race someone that's what the races are for Did you bother to install the UMD data? If you don't like the controls you can change them. I moved mine to the shoulder buttons as well. E-brake to O I don't understand the complaints about the "no" career mode. Just because the game doesn't stick things right in your face you people get lost... You still have all the races, except now you have all the difficulties... It still keeps you win count, I'm not really sure what I'm missing... Of course this game doesn't have everything a Blu Ray disc does, but then again it's what 46-47 gb's smaller... one thing i would whisper to polyphony is "INFRASTRUCTURE (!!!) MODE (!!!)" --- even if they had to charge us all an extra £10 and release the access on a second disk --- i can imagine they might need a few extra servers though lol..

quote theleetworld.comDo you know about the program for monster hunter? It let's you connect online through your PS3, there is also one called xlink Kai. I will guarantee that will be around for GT soon if it hasn't been released already. The only thing though for the ps3 it was on a japanese site, so it was tough to read and figure out where to sign up. But it was well worth the effort. -------------------

I normally dont like Racing games, but I got this game and I like it. I think they took out some of the stuff from old ones to make it more portable? IDK. Im not an expert. But its a great game cause if Im waiting a few minutes for something or someone while Im out an about, its a good time filler.

It makes the game run faster because it doesn't have to read from the umd all the time. It does help and it removes a bit of the annoying read noise.
quote masterofbladesThis is a duble edged sword. It is obvious that this is the reason the devs made it so easy to get money and buy great cars. This being a portable console they see the majority of people just picking up the game and having a quick race. This is good and all but for those who wanted the authentic gran tursimo experience it is kind of a let down. ------------------- The Classic Gamer's Society. A gentry club for classic gaming guys. I don't have any gripes about this game what so ever. I see a lot of people complaining about content not in it.
You have to look at what they are working with... The UMD is 1gb, When you install the UMD to your card. You will see that 1gb of info is put on there. 1GB for todays game is TINY!!! For them to get what they did in the game is a feat unto itself... There was no more room for anything else. They took the most vital parts of the game and put them in. The best feature the actual racing is still top notch. I wonder what people would have said if they removed certain aspects so they could add a career. The racing would be hit, it would not be like it is. In that case you might as well just label the game Forza instead of GT... -------------------

quote leetworld.comBut there isn't racing. There's a single race mode, but all the old games had that as well. I never used it. Never. Because I wanted the career mode. I don't want to make my own races, I want to have a set of races in a bunch of different cars that I have to complete. That's what all GT games have had, that's what every racer has had ON TOP of a single race mode. All GT has is single race, and license tests. quote GoatCheeseSee above point. quote GoatCheeseYep. The loads aren't too bad. I was pleased to see that when you've just done a challenge and you exit, then try it again, it loads almost instantly. The problem is that there's probably 4 screens separating the challenge screen from the menu where the dealership is. And each one has a load time of at least a second or two. Considering every couple of challenges you'll want to check the dealership, it really sucks. quote GoatCheeseBut the default controls are un-useable, if you're driving manual. It's ludicrous. quote GoatCheeseLike I said before...Would you play GTA IV without the missions? How long could it really keep you going? You can still kill people, jack cars, whatever...but it's not the same. quote GoatCheeseNo one expects it to match a blu-ray, but little old 600mb GT1 had a career, as did ~1.6mb GT2. In fact GT2 showed that a great game with 650 cars and a massive career could fit on an 800mb disc, as long as they put the single player mode on another disc. So don't give me disc constraints, they could have done a career in favor of other features, and they didn't. quote Terranigma FanNo, they didn't. License tests weren't vital, either are cars. Sure, we need a certain amount, but for a console where the previous best had around 80 cars, 850 is pure overkill. They could easily remove some in favor of a career mode. I don't hate the game, and I'm looking forward to playing it again. It just takes a period of adjustment to the fact that they left out one of the definitive features of each and every previous GT game. And it'll never be the world beater I always thought it would be. Edit: Today I took my new Ford GT out on Circuit De La Sarthe, and I was pitted against a pair of Merc Mclaren SLRs and...A Buick Special. A BUICK SPECIAL.. I mean, it looks nice, but there's no way in hell that fat chunk of American metal is ever competing against an SLR. This message was edited by Ville_Valo on Oct 05 2009. -------------------
