How on earth do I stand on the apron? It keeps saying I need to face towards the rope and press A (on 360), but I keep doing that and I keep getting out of the ring instead. >__>

It is tricky, I think you have to tap A instead of just pressing it.

Walk up the ring steps and you'll stand on the apron, that's the easiest way to do it. The other way is what Haz said, but I usually fail at that and climb into the ring as well.
