re: Unemployment Challenge [V] |

Just about to start the 2015/16 season, my third as Notts Forrest. I'm hoping to reach the playoffs this year, missed out due to a very bad end of the season last time.
Had to sell one of my better CBs though as he wanted to leave. Got 500k to spend now, should be able to do something with that! ------------------- ![]() Lockerz- Earn free stuff! PM me for an invite!

Season Overview
Blue Square Premier After a very successful season in the Blue Square North I was confident in my squads ability to gain promotion again in the Blue Square Premier, however I had to get rid of some dead wood in my squad which happened to be a few first team players who had aged over the past year. Unfortunately after a shaky start to the season saw me mid-table, it was where I'd stay for the rest of it. With just 6 matches left I had a game in hand and was 4 points off the play-offs, which saw me draw the next 5, but winning my final fixture. The Crawley match with 3 matches to go was the deciding fixture. After taking a 2 goal advantage into the break, we threw it away and they scored within 10 minutes of the second half, and with 10 minutes to go my 2nd choice left back Steve Penel gave away a penalty, which they converted. My final league position was 7th. Conference League Cup I had confidence in winning either this or the FA Trophy this season as I felt I had a League 2 squad. After beating Newport County in the 2nd round I was knocked out by Wrexham, drawing 2-2 in normal time but then losing 5-3 on penalties. FA Cup I was determined to pass the 1st round for the first time in Farsley club history, and after beating Harrogate 7-0 in the 4th qualifying round, I was confident of beating Bury. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, after going 2-0 down we managed to pull back just 1 goal, but went out again in the 1st round, to another League 2 side. FA Trophy The big domestic trophy for the non-league teams. I didn't look like I'd do too well in this, after taking Salisbury to a replay in the first round. However I was very surprised to find myself against Northwich in the semi-final's. I was expecting to lose this match, seeing as they were 4th at the time. But 2-0 victories home and away saw me go through comfortably. Unfortunately I was drawn against Luton in the final. I wasn't feeling very confident about this match, after drawing 5 of my last 6 matches, only winning my last game 2-0 against Grays. At half-time I was 1-0 down, but I was determined to finish the season with a trophy, but when a penalty was awarded (it shouldn't have been a penalty but oh well) for a psuh by Ablancourt and it was converted, I was 2-0 down with half a hour left to play. In the 90th minute, a glimmer of hope came from CM Baptiste Llop after he scored from 30 yards, finding the top corner and then in the 94th minute (6 minutes added time) a lovely ball in from the 2nd choice LM Patrick Vaz found striker Miroslaw Wania, who saw his volley find the top corner. The best chance in extra-time came from Dennis Oli, who hit the crossbar within 30 seconds but the match inevitably went to penalties. I was far from confident as I'd only ever been to penalties twice before, where I lost both times. I ended up finishing the game on 10 men, after Patrick Vaz got injured and I had used my subs. We missed our first penalty, Didier Caro goind straight down the middle where it was saved. The 3rd penalty was missed by Julien Harrouard, who hit the post and the 4th saw Grezgorz Piesio hit the same post to lose the match. Players All in all a relatively pleasing season, and the awards are: Top Goalscorer - Miroslaw Wania We were missing a natural 20+ goalscorer and he finished as top scorer with a mere 13 goals. Player of the Season (Average Rating) - Julien Harrouard Julien has already became a favoured personnel at the club and was even with Driss Benouda, but considering Harrouard was there at the start of the season and was first choice, he's my player of the year. Signing of the Season(Average Rating) - Grzegorz Piesio Although Benouda was the best performer, he only played 7 matches compared to Piesio's 43. -------------------

I love this challenge and posted earlier about a Farsley Celtic file which ended up going sour. So (and i know this doesnt technically count as in the challenge) but i started this again and put my local club Maidstone Utd in the BSS with exactly the same info (rep. finances etc.) as Farsley.
First season was superb. Finished as league champions and made FA Cup round two losing only to millwall. made some other good cup runs to help boost the finances. Second season saw only a couple of players join as i thought my squad had the potential to deliver much higher levels than at present. Started a bit sticky but an eleven game unbeaten run has put me within just five points of the play offs after 27 games.

Figured I'd provide SS for my first few seasons.....
Season 1 Got offered the Hyde job, pretty much spent all season revamping the squad, was on and off and then found some good form. However was too late to make the playoffs, ended 6th. Season 2 Started well with Hyde, was 3rd after 10 games and then Macclesfield approached me. They were 18th in the BSQ Prem, I again spent all season revamping the squad and trying to build my own. Had a lot of draws, but ended the season very well, but again like at Hyde, missed out on the playoffs. 6th again! Player of the year Dany N'Guessan - My first signing, I managed to seal him on a loan and he played well, in January I tried a cheeky bid of £0, which to my surprise Leicester accepted and Dany was interested. -------------------

It's been a bad start with Forest for me again. I can't really see how i'm gonna improve these guys without a takeover happening! I might have to move clubs to keep moving up!

I've strengthened my team incredibly and all 23 players would walk into any team in the BSP, but after 7 matches I'm 18th and have W1 L2 and D4. It's really frustrating! Last season I was always mid-table with players that were only decent, now I've got a squad full of class and just can't seem to get a win, seeing as I haven't won in 5 matches.

Yeah I often find that. The happier I am with a team, the worser I do!
I've managed to strengthen my team slightly, but i'm well over my wage budget, and selling my best striker in Jan as he wants to leave. At least that will sort out my financial problems! Do most of you sell when a player wants to leave? I find the squad harmony drops big time if I don't, then my whole team starts playing rubbish! ------------------- ![]() Lockerz- Earn free stuff! I've sold every player that wants to leave me. If they don't want to play for me then they can go. I'm starting to find my feet again, but I can't grab a string of wins, being 14th, W5, L5, D6. My problem has to be conceding, with my 1st and 2nd choice strikers scoring a combined 14 goals in 16 games. But my best attribute last season was defence and I've only strengthened my 2nd choice mainly, adding just 3 new 1st teamers (ST, LM, AM) so I shouldn't be conceding. At this rate it's gonna be a 3rd season in BSP.

Yeah I also get the same, I again revamped my team, got loads of Chelsea, Arsenal youth players that were released. Managed to sell my older 32 yr old players, about 5 of them for a total of 100k.
On paper I should walk the division but had a stuttering start so far. As for unhappy players, if they want to go I usually do let them, but if they are a star player I bump their asking price up to a massive fee and if no-one bids it I don't sell. Sometimes the player gives up and gets happy and signs a new deal -------------------

Still doing poorly in the league. Now half-way through but starting to gel. My new striker Joel Thomas has hit 11 goals in 21 matches as a lone striker but I'm still 14th with a game in hand which can only take me 12th and 6 points off 5th, which is still my target. I've had to sell my 2nd choice LB Steve Penel for 1k and have replaced him and my outgoing 3rd choice striker. I'm now trying to bring in Stephen Ettien, Bartosz Bilakowski and David Campion as well as my parent club Blackburn trying to loan me a good RM/ST. I've been knocked out of the FA Cup by Southport, losing in a replay 1-0 in the 4th Qualifying round (the original fixture finished 1-1), but I'm still in the FA Trophy 2nd round and into the CLC QF.
EDIT: Just beat Kettering 3-1. Thomas scored a hat-trick. -------------------

Well after my first season promotion as league champions season two was also fairly sucessful. Nothing to report in the cups but my Maidstone boys finished 10th in the BSP just 6 points off the play offs. Was well up there but won only once in my last eight. Third season i am aiming for a play off push but after 8 signings and a poor start i am again 10th and 6 points off the play offs after 25 games. gonna take something huge to make the grade.

I've started to do better in my 3rd year, 2nd season in BSQ Prem.
I lowered my training schedules as some players were moaning at "high training workload" and the performances on the field have been much better. I'm 3rd at the moment after 10 games, Scott Rendell has been blasting them in. Unfortunately my keeper Tommy Forecast keeps having clubs declaring interest in him, I don't wanna lose him! -------------------

Up to "the final hurdle" now. With 10 games left to play I'm 6th, a point from 5th, 4th and 3rd, but 10 and 11 points off 2nd and 1st. Playing Chesterfield now, hoping for a good result naturally, being at my ground where I'm unbeaten again (only lost 1 home match last season
