 Reality "Go on son!" I shout from the touchline as Beckham cuts into the box as Seattle back away in fear and in hope they can not concede. A little dink from the English midfielder sets Landon Donovan an easy tap in to make the game finished after the fifty-fourth minute, the second clock slowed down in movie style fashion and the crowd's anticipation and noise was lessened, heart in mouth as I encouraged him to shoot and settle the game to win me my first trophy here. The glorified goalkeeper rushes out like Usain Bolt and slides to the ground hoping to get his body in the way to block the shot. Off the ball David has darted into the box like in his prime again and awaiting an acute ball with precision like his original one, a head up as he calls the ball to him wanting the pass with the goal much in his sites. Landon looks up and spots him with the corner of his eye, the flame there knowing the oncoming goalkeeper will give him no chance of getting the glory for himself but he knows David Beckham can get it. I comment to my assistant how he is a team player, a nice bloke as well. The ball across takes a decade to reach the recipient; the waiting David Beckham anxious as ever to slot the ball into the open net, when it reaches him the smell of anticipation grows, the flare in the distance burns bright in the crowd making the holder not just a blob anymore but a person. The moment rushes past, it's in! The team run to the corner to celebrate as they know the game can't be lost now, emotions are high, happiness is rife. Vision is lost, all of a sudden the colourful backdrop has gone and I am in my office, alone, pen in hand writing my CV, what has happened? I wonder but then I realise. The reality stings like a gas shell in World War One. My brain had wandered, why did that happen? The wish was real, something I had hoped for but it is out of touch. All I am is a celebrity married to Hayden Panettiere managing Hollywood XI, they aren't that bad but I want bigger. The house is empty, Hayden at work and Rose getting her stimulus by playing with the blocks. Everything seems so big. Light seeps through the blinds as it accompanies the desk lamp to create a soft lighting. Los Angeles, the team I would love to manage are too good for me as I put my pen onto the wooden desk with a click as the hard metal encasing the ink hits the smooth surface it is laid upon. My weary hand reaches towards the bottom draw tired after all the writing, my mind seems surreal, everything I have done in life or thought I have done isn't right, the only thing that was real is Hayden but even now I am doubting it. Dreams are forever unachievable, merely tricks our minds play on us, goals we aim for but know will never get. I pull the envelope out of the packet and place it on the desk, pick my pen up and carefully inscribe on the front 'LOS ANGELES GALAXY', the fragile paper tucks neatly into the packaging and I seal it, forever gone. I pick another up, sighing and hoping 'CHELSEA'. The task soon becomes repetitive as I get an envelope, write and check off on the list every time. Soon the batch is done and my night is complete and the silence is restored as I get into bed and dream, dream that someday one of these teams will reply to me and I can live the life I thought I had.
