Capcom vs Squaresoft???? |
|
Wouldn't it be sweet if they made a fighting game that was Capcom vs Squaresoft? I think it would be cool to have a team of like Cloud, Ryu, and Strider.

Squaresoft's over, now we have to witness the pathetic era of Square Enix. Although that idea would be pretty awesome, Square would probably push for 3d graphics which would take away from the gameplay. It would be pretty cool if you could unlock Mega Man X or Cloud though.

....Pathetic era of Square/Enix?
Enix is the king of rpgs. Square wouldn't even be around today if it weren't for the inspiration of Dragon Quest. Has anyone here played DW7? Man, I started it, but lost the damn disc before I was even close to finishing--so damn long! The fighting game idea is total crap(Square's already tried that and proved they're really just a one trick pony: RPGs). What I'd really like to see is Square/Enix team up with Capcom to put out a new Breath of Fire game. With the exception of Dragon Quarter, this is one of the best(yet most slept on) RPG series out there. I just know with the damn-near-infinite resouces these guys can scrape together, it'd be killer as all hell. ...Matter of fact, let's hope they don't do that. Square ruined fighting games, and they ruined BoF, already. Let's just hope they don't do anything.

Enix is unreliable. Their games barely push the envelope for any breakthroughs as far as storylines are concerned. Star Ocean: The Second Story, Valkyrie Profile.. the ads were nice but once you own it the misconceptions are obvious. Enix games don't provide a challenge as much as they provide annoyance.

Very odd considering "2nd Story" is my 2nd fave RPG(BoF III being my #1). But in the end, you can say the same for Square, they "pushed the envelope" back in the SNES era with Chrono Trigger, Mario RGP(swwweeeeet!!), and Secret of Mana. Now they just push polygons. I've bought their RPGs(when the prices get bumped down, of course), but after about two hours I get bored. RPGs as a whole have plateued, I spend my RPG time playing Legend of Legaia.

Indeed, but Enix is more notorious for poor quality releases... it always lacks something in appeal where Square games are more addicting.

*Ahem* Remember, if you don't stick to the topic, this thread might die, that's what the rules say...Anyway, no Square character would stand a chance against Jin, Strider, Hayato or Cap.Commando, unless Geno was in the game...but Square only partially owns him, don't they?
P.S. Uh, Hayato IS a Capcom character, isn't he?

Hayato is a Capcom Character, but it doesn't matter. Hayato is nothing. The game in theory will amount to how Ryu's moves are done to determine what tier he lands in so Ryu groupies can pit him against Cloud groupies. Square has one thing in besides graphics (melodrama). It doesn't compare to the flashiness and overblown personalities bled out by the likes of Ken or Sakura, or Dan. Even Ryu and Dhalsim have more glitter thrown onto them then the likes of Square characters. I mean, what are they going to do, fall in love and get all angsty mid-fight? That card's been played out a decade ago.
By the way, Marvel would own Square too. The next VS game I'd like to see would be Namco vs Tecmo(Team Ninja). Ryu Hayabusa beating the crap outta Jin....now there's an image. As far as Capcom, Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat is my final fantasy. There's some technical difficulties though, like fireballs not existing in the MK universe, but that can be sortta ignored.

re: Capcom vs Squaresoft???? |
quote playboydojoWhoever Ryu Hayabusa is, do you seriously think he could actually beat a powerful guy who has a suit with spikes, punches and kicks that emit energy, cool combos, and the ability to turn his clothes into energy, and transform into a deadly tornado, and the ability to glow & become stronger? Get serious...DOA characters is almost all Tecmo has..As for characters from Ninja Gaiden, S-Hiryu could easily kick all of their butts. I agree with you about Marvel bein' stronger than Square, though.

First off, DOA is very anime-inspired. That's basically why such thhings as "Tengu" exist in their realm, and why 16 year-old kunoichi(Kasumi&Ayane) have won all the tournements so far. So, now that it's been established that DOA is anime-based, I pose a question:
What the hell is stronger than an anime ninja? Nothing is, by the way. So technically, Strider and Ryu Hayabusa are on the same level. The only difference is that while Stirder's only option is teleportation and Orbs, Ryu could hunt his ass down--he moves so fast through the air that it might as well be teleportation, his incindiary shiryukens are enough to pressure Strider into actual combat. And once combat starts....it's over. Strider's fast, but a Ryu armed with Vigoran Flails is...just...too...much. Hayabusa is the meanest rushdown I've ever seen outside of MvC2(Ryu of CvS2 and Christie of DOA okay too). Strider can't beat Hayabusa at all--and while Jin's moves have nice priortity, they suck. That's why Jin's in the lower 2nd tier. CounterxxIzunami Drop repeatedly=fight over. As far as DOA vs Capcom, the reason I bring them up is because their perfect. 1. The Characters have that incredible "lager than life" quality, even though they look like regular people. Do a Bass/Tina ComboxxTagxxAir Throw combo and see what I mean. These characters are ill. Or a Ayane/Hayabusa ComboxxTagxxIzunami Drop combo....DAAAAAAAAMN!!! 2. Both characters have a deep anime basis. DOA would look damn good drawn by Capcom's awesome artists(best in the world, IMO). And Tecmo can do what Capcom seemingly can't: build a good 3d fighter. Capcom characters would look damn good modeled by Team Ninja(DOA games set the graphical standard much like Square does). 3. I forget the creators name, but the creator of DOA can kick out great characters. It wouldn't be much problem to create more characters for the sole purpose of matching Capcom's roster, or simply adjusting pre-existing characters into a fighter game mold like he did for Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa. Capcom vs DOA would be a match made in heaven. This message was edited by playboydojo on Apr 11 2004.
