I reckon mine would be zodiac spear, tournesol/ultima blade and wyrmhero blade/excalibur. What do you reckon the best stuff is?

How do you define best ?

The tournesol and zodiac spear probably are in that category.
Ultima blade is as well...I got one recently and I like the damage it causes.

Wyrmhero blade really comes too late in the game to be worthy of that title.Plus it's too slow.
Bows such as the Saggtarius and various crossbows don't do enough damage.

I guess you would have to put the Formahaut in there because it's relatively easy to get and you can get it fairly early in the gamebut it doesn't cause enough damage either in my view.

When i say best i mean either damage wise or just your favourite.

Zodiac Spear is definitely one of the best simply because you can get it so early. Tournesol is ok, just a pain to get. Ultima Blade....meh. Excalibur is excellent and the Wyrmhero Blade is the biggest piece of trash in the game simply because by the time you get it, it's redundant as there is nothing left to use it on. Waste of time getting it other than for trophy value.

My favourites? Danjuro and Yagyu Darkblade when used in conjunction with the Cat-ear Hood. Sparks fly!

Oh yeah. I forgot about them. I'm thinking i might change tournesol/ultima blade for saggitarius/formalhaut cos it's probably best to have a ranged character. Golden axe is the best weapon you can get extremely easily. Great bazaar guide by the way!

Not a lover of Axes and Hammers later in the game because of the random damage. When something is about to chew my ass then I want to know it's going down with one more hit.

I don't like axes and hammers either. It's just they're the easiest to get.

The best weapon is Zeintengrate. With 224 attack, nothing can stop it.

Sounds like somebody lacks fishing skills..

I'm going to go out on a limb and say my favorite weapons at the moment are the mage staves, especially the elemental ones. I feel this way probably because I learned too late in the game about how great these really are.

Problem was, the game was so easy to hack/slash that I got lulled into the idea of just getting weapons with higher attack stats each time I could upgrade.

It wasn't until Fafnir, when I went and bought 3 Cloud Staves, and boy was that fun. You could say it took some strategy out of the fight, but it was an eye opener for me on the uses of the staves, which I wish I had had earlier in the game.

My subsequent plays of the game are going to include more strategy with magic, staves, rods and even the maces! I suppose others have done magic only games already.

One of the nice things about the game is that you can get so much replay value by using different limitations. It does not have to be (but certainly can be) one of the big challanges either. Try a play through where all your characters use magic armor and your 'tank' is a mage with a mace, your healer NEVER attacks, ect....

I agree with Wizard. The replay value of the game is fantastic as the challenges you can give yourself appear almost limitless. There are over 160 weapons in this game and the vast majority of them never seem to get used until someone realises just what you can do with them.

Part of the learning curve of the game is the gambits, and I think the magic weapons become more useful as the player gets better with tweaking gambits/strategies "on the fly." It took me almost the whole game to be really using the gambits well. Or I should say, to be getting exactly the results I intended from the gambits.
