There's all the information about Quickenings in chapter 7. Sorry to just take you to a FAQ, I had a very long and detailed answer for you, but I somehow screwed up and closed the whole Neoseeker tab.

Well, hope that helps!

re: Quickenings

If you get enough of any level of quickening then you get a concurrence. These are not elemental even though it looks like they are and they effect every enemy in an area instead of just one. The worst is inferno and the best is black hole.

re: Quickenings

I read the whole FAQ posted above (very much enjoyed the detailed stats), but it didn't tell me anything about improving my quickenings.

I have not been able to get Order of Ambrosia for two reasons, one of them being I can't get all the concurrences. Just the other day I took one of my files and went to Giza and just did quickenings and couldn't get even ONE concurrence!

re: Quickenings

You couldn't even get Inferno? You are pressing R2 when you don't have anymore options, aren't you? Remember one of the tricks is that if you see Mist Charge on one of the characters, keep tapping that button because they are guaranteed to have a Quickening on the next shuffle.

re: Quickenings

I did not know that you needed all concurrences to get order of ambrosia.

1. When you start the quickening try to have full mp if possible.
2. Look at the available quickenings as quickly as possible. Try to use the one that uses up the least mp eg a level 1 quickening.
3. If the option mist charge is available, always take it.
4. If you can use the same character to do two quickenings in a row rather than two different people do it. This is cos mist charge charges one person up to full mp. Say everyone started and was able to do all three level three quickenings. If you make two different people do level one quickenings then this leaves these stats

Vaan 2-able to perform a level two quickening
Penelo 2-able to perform a level two quickening
Basch 3- able to perform any quickening

Now if Vaan gets a mist charge he and Basch can perform any quickening but Penelo can't. If however, Vaan does two level one quickenings himsel instead of two different people:

Vaan 1-able to perform a level 1 quickening
Penelo 3-able to perform any quickening
Basch 3- able to perform any quickening

Now if Vaan gets a mist charge he goes back to having full mp and everyone can use any quickening.

5. If there is nothing available on the page of quickenings you are looking at press the r2 button. This is called shuffling. This will give you more options of a quickening though you still may not always be able to perform any. DO NOT KEEP PRESSING R2 UNTIL THE LAST SECOND. THIS IS A COMMON MISTAKE FOR PEOPLE ON THEIR FIRST PLAYTHROUGH THINKING THIS POWERS UP THE QUICKENING BUT IT DOESN'T!

6. The amount of time you have left on your next quickening is:
Time remaining+(Time taken for last quickening/2)

This means cos you start at four seconds, if you take two seconds to perform your first quickening this will leave two seconds. Then you add half of two seconds cos this is the time it took you to perform the quickening. This means on your second quickening you add the one second and the two seconds leaving you with three seconds to do the next one.

Getting decent concurrences is very hard especially black hole so just keep working towards it. You will get there eventually.

Hope this helps!

Not drastic but a small error. Should read:

Time remaining - (Time taken for last quickening/2)

If it were + we would all have 99 chains and hit Black Hole every time

re: Quickenings

Okay my eyes rolled up in confusion...

Maybe if somebody can describe how they can reliably get a Black Hole concurrence, that would be informative on other combinations.

I rarely use quickenings, and so it was with dismay that I discovered I needed them for the O of A. Would rather use any other magic spell in arsenal than a quickening. I have got Inferno and a couple of others just by accident, and that was at the beginning of the game before I had a lot of the other spells. After I got spells, I gave up on the quickenings.

re: Quickenings

Are you sure it's minus grand master? Cos i checked it in a guide thing and it said plus. Cos if you divide the time taken for the last quickening in half you will always have less than at the beginning. eg

you begin with four seconds
on first quickening imagine you take two seconds
thatleaves you with two seconds as the time taken and two seconds as the time for the last quickening
then you divide the two seconds for the time of the last quickening to get 1 second and then add that on to the 2 to get 3.
Then if it happens again and it takes two seconds that leaves you with 1 second for time remaining and one second for half of time taken taking you down to two seconds.
If you take two seconds again you run out of time. You probably shouldn't be taking two seconds to perform each quickening though

I'm not saying i'm definitely right just that i believe i am. You know more.

To get black hole you need

4 level one quickenings
4 level two quickenings
4 level three quickenings.
Quite hard to get.

re: Quickenings

Zodiac, do you mean 2 seconds to press the right button?

Thanks for taking the time out to write these details.

I don't think I'll ever get a Black Hole...

These quickenings and the fishing game are going to forever prevent me from getting Order of Ambrosia...

re: Quickenings

It shouldn't take you two seconds to select a quickening but it took me longer when i began. I do mean to select the right button. In the quickening you will notice your party characters have either an x, triangle or square symbol next to their name. To select the character when mist charge or a quickening are available, just press the button that has its symbol next to their name. You should select the quickening that takes up the least mp (the ones in the quickening screen where next to the name there is only one quickening symbol) as quickly as possible. If there are no level one quickenings do a level two one which has two quickening symbols and if that is not available do a level three. Mist charge should always take prefernce to a quickening no matter what level it is and if there is nothing available, press r2 to shuffle until something is. If nothing comes don't worry it happens. You have just been unlucky and had a dud-chain. This is when mist charge does not appear. If you are wondering what the concurrence black hole looks like, it basically looks exactly like Zodiark's darkja but without Zodiark in the middle. Good luck. You will understand how to do quickenings soon and it won't be long before you get black hole.
