Hey im new.

Hey everyone, im new to the final fantasy series, and so far, it looks like ive been missing out. I started playing ffxii a few months ago. So far i have made it to the "Stilshrine of Miriam". Most of my characters are around level 23 and i am finding this area very difficult. Ive been looking around at everyone elses progress in this game and they all seem to be such higher levels at this point, i dont know what im doing wrong. Please can someone help me out, im in a difficult situation of keeping up with the game with my levels. Thank You.

re: Hey im new.

While this game does require some leveling equipment means more than levels. So make sure you have the best equipment you can either buy at that point of the game or make in the bazaar.Plus if you haven't opened up one of the forbidden chest go to the nechrol and get the zodiac spear.
Good luck.

re: Hey im new.

Also spend LP on augments. Those also go a long way in making your characters more effective than leveling.

re: Hey im new.

Personaly I think your levels are fine, you are maybe 1 or 2 levels below where I'm at when I go through the stillshrine on most of my play throughs. I've found that nothing takes the fun outta the game quicker than being over leveled. If you are to high then the game just becomes an interactive movie since none of the fights are a challange. Like others said, check your equipment. Also check your tactics they are as important (or moreso) than you levels. Trust me, once you get good at the game you will be looking for ways to make it harder.

Oh yeah, welcome to the game and welcome to the forum

re: Hey im new.

Sorry but I have to disagree...
Nothing worse in this game than getting killed multiple times by nonbosses..although getting killed by bosses is also frustrating.
I don't believe in the overleveled theory....
Get all the levels you can.

re: Hey im new.

Sure, I guess that would suck but how bad do you have to be to loose to non bosses in a game that can be completed at levels 1,2,2,3,3,3,??? I mean the game is silly easy if you do not limit yourself in some manner. Just look at all the challanges people have made up:
122333
Streaker
NLB
LLNLB
Solo
Solo/Active
I'm sure I've left out some.

If you are over leveled all you do is walk around one-shot killing mobs and taking out bosses super easy. Like killing Zodiarc in under a minute ( now how much fun is that, outside of bragging rights I mean:) ).

I would much rather have tough fights that I feel good about winning than just spending time walking from cut sceen to cut sceen. Now that's just my take on it and if you disagree I won't loose sleep over it. It is a game after all so everyone should play it in whatever manner is most fun to them.

re: Hey im new.

I don't care how long or how difficult the boss battles are, what matters is if they are interesting. I liked king bomb a lot because he kept using renew and summoning his allies. It made you think... oh, maybe if I silence him it would be easier. So bosses that do more than attack and heal are fun. while being difficult is a plus, it i not everything.

re: Hey im new.

The 1,2,3,3 claims are ok but some people exaggerate their importance. It's fiction that this game is easy.It isn't.It eats up a lot of newbies due to the difficulty and the sheer boredom/lack of character development.
If people who like the game like it that's fine but they shouldn't try to propagandize it.

The tc should read as many faqs as he should.Just stay away from some of the overexuberant fans.

re: Hey im new.

'Easy' is a relative term. In my last play through I NEVER got a 'game over' and that was with about a half dozen self imposed limitations. Maybe you do not think it is an easy game but I (and others) do. Like I said 'easy' is relative.
Now, if people quit playing because they find it boreing or they don't like the characters (I dislike pretty much everyone of them myself) that is completly different from it being to hard.

The 122333 challenge shows that levels are not the answer to all problems. So many people have the same advise to a multitude of problems and that advise is "just go level up". instead of having better tactics or gear. Sure if you want you can just level to 50 on Dustia with Vaan and you'll never have a hard fight for the whole game. WTH is the point in that? Hmmmmm......this whole paragraph is off topic 'WACK'

Overexuberant fans are common of forums, acctually one could easily make the argument that forums are nothing but overexuberant fans. After all, not only do they (we) play the game, we also seek out a place to talk about it with other players. Those who read (and good lord write) stratagy guides/walk throughs just take it to another level all together.

Still, all that said I have no idea how anyone can find this game hard. Boreing, sure; not to their liking, of course; confusing story line, ok (maybe). However it's not hard.

Of course 'hard' just like 'easy' is a relative and subjective term

re: Hey im new.

Having beaten 122333, HLB, streaker, streaker LLG, and NLB (May try solo and solo/active -though i hate active mode. lol).. It's not what you do in the game...it's how you do it. And for newbies to the game i made some threads on bosses to easily defeat them buying simple weapons from stores.

The easiest way to play this game is to learn what your doing.

A fluent combo of gambits, augments and equipment based off of character development.

--I'm sorry to say this, but lack of character development in this game in non-sense. I've looked at the calculations and how everything is based upon. Character development is HUGE, and i do mean huge.

Example: Giving rod of faith to Vaan, and deathbringer to Ashe. Not a good combo for the two, switch them and maximize their skills.

Deathbringer - ashe - grand armor and gran helm. Dang there ya go that equipment is perfect!! even for her influx of magic. Which magick gloves will boost that anyways.

You can change so much, build so much, and gambits equipment and teams can change exponentially to your enemies.

Remember that one gambit system, or one equipment will NOT get you to win EVERY battle. Expirament. learn what works best, what works the least.

storyline is easy if you pay attention. its more like a long movie where you fill in the middle of each cut scene.

And just to remind you for those who have not played 122333... you very rarely EVER battle nonbosses as you can;t have the experience. only after you gather firefly's; though by that time your waiting to try out the next battle.

re: Hey im new.

I have to disagree again...
A lot of people don't believe the game is easy by any stretch of anyone's imagination.
If some people believe it's easy that's ok.
Most people like to find their own way with a game as far as stategy and tactics rather than being forced to follow someone else's theories/practices to be successful.
This game is controversial in several ways and opinions about it differ widely, from people like FF grandmaster who belive it's the best FF ever to people who absolutely hate it and say it's the worst FF ever.
Of all the FF games I have ever played, and I have played all of them except the online FF 11's, this one seems to have the most variation in player viewpoints.
Maybe someday the director Matsuno will get his act together and explain why he did what he did with it so that so many either love it or hate it.

re: Hey im new.

This is true, but with any subject comes different arguments. i merely hope to give a basis as to help them if they run into difficulties, or look at the game thoroughly before judging it.

On a further note. Yazumi Matsuno, for ff12, Bailed out because of health issues and may not come back to develop final fantasy. This is why there is a yiazmat. End of a legend for being a commadatation and insult.

re: Hey im new.

True about Matsuno..although there have been allegations he had an extramarital affair.
Hope Krunal doesn't mod me for saying that but that is what I have heard.Smile
Still maybe someday he'll answer some of the unanswered questions in one of the Japanese gamings magazines.
