Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

Okay.. I beat him 1st time, stole the Genji shield/gloves. Erm, how do I keep him from owning me like a school girl the 2nd time?

(Anyone ever wonder how a mob goes from puny to godly, in a span of about 30 minutes max, lol).

I'm level 54/3/3. Zodiac, Save the Queen, and Deathbringer. His status effects suck.

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

#1 gambit)Ally status=KO Phoenix Down
(important, you want all allies up and able to take a hit as quick as possible)

Hmmm. I only had access to the 1 bubble belt I received from bazaar at the time, so I equipped that on my healer. Have everyone set with a gambit to cast bubble on everyone. Having max HP was more important for me than getting in attacks that round.

Take out the dog first! He'll go down rather quickly compared to Mr. Arrogant, and that extra damage he does (along with petrification?) can make it really tough to keep the battle going.

Buff with everything you've got before you enter, then touch the crystal and run up. Guess maybe I dropped using shell, but Bubble, Bravery on the meleers, Faith on whoever might need to cast a cure spell in that first minute or two.

After I got the dog down, I think I kept lure on Vaan? Vaan's my sword and shield tank. Sometimes he wouldn't go down after Gilgamesh's special attack.

Full inventory of Phoenix Downs, remedies or whatever. Get rid of status effects before they bite you in the butt. First priority over causing damage. I'm thinking maybe either the dog or Gilga was succeptible to blind, slow, or poison. Try status effects or techniques if you want. Sometimes they can really turn the tide of battle. Reverse can be handy, but I have trouble micromanaging it. If you notice your folks come down with status ailments too much, try equipping accessories that will negate them. I gave up quick damage for the ability to maintain health over time.

Hope this helps.

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

Hmm. I have 3 Bubble belts. 2 are equipped, I can equip the third on my healer (Ashe). I haven't got decoy, didn't think it would be that handy, but maybe i'll try it. The status effect that seems to kill me most is disable. I hate that damn thing. I figured on taking the dog out first, but even with a 12-13 hit combo on the first quickening, didn't take away much health

dispelga first and focus attack on his pet, ignore Gilgamesh for now cuz you want to get rid of his pet first to left Gilgasmesh alone, keep your party health above 2000+ HP at all times

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

I had a black belt on Vaan, one I had received from bazaar at one time. Couldn't find anymore at that moment in the game for me (had looked before fighting Queklain). I'm thinking remedies are available for sale in some shops when that hunt becomes available. Any Ally=Remedy can be a quick way to get folks up and running again (if a tad bit expensive in those long drawn out battles, also, need the 2nd Remedy license for Disable/immobolize relief).
I put my healer on Ally HP<100%= Curaja when the dog was still alive. 2nd character Ally HP<70%= Curaja, and 3rd Ally HP<50% Curaja above their attack gambits. When the dog dies, switching to just Curaga will save a lot of MP, as I think Gilgamesh doesn't have any Area of Effect attacks. My healer had some great Magic Power (unequipped her bow, equipped a staff, equipped the best Magic Power gear available), along with Faith, so these cures still packed a wallop.

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

Where can I find Bravery and Faith? (and the belts are sold by the guy in Mt. Ome-Burisce.) As for money, that's not a problem right now, lol. I bought 50 remedies, hopefully that will do.

This mofo is really starting to piss me off. Why the hell does it seem like crap goes off slower when fighting him, I dont get it. It's like there's lag in commands. Dammit. I dont want to have to run out of the cave again, get more phoenix downs, see if I can even by Curaja.. bleah.

Do u mean after u launch a spell, it will stop there and do ntg? Then after a while it will only cast? I think this is because Gilgamesh are launching his super move. Anyway, Gilgamesh is fast thus making our character a bit slow.

Good luck to you dude. I had my 50 minute hard time beating him..

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

From my experience, only 1 magic spell, special ability, or technique can go off at a time, whether friend or foe is using it. This is the most frustrating aspect of the game for me. While my folks are waiting to cast cures or black magic, either my meleers, if they're attacking, can sometimes get in several hits, and/or the mobs do. Heck, even steal can get behind that queue. Sometimes I'll have Vaan select steal, and the other 2 party members will get in loads of hits on a mob. I believe that this was was designed where only one thing can be done at a time (besides attack) because of the PS2s processing limits and the presence of real time battles. I think that this is one of the best arguments for random battle encounters over real time.

Lv. 4 Break is when your level is divisible by 4, so the Break affects you. Lv. 2 Sleep is when you level is divisible by 2, so the Sleep affects you.

Which leads to the next obvious suggestion - make sure your party members all have a level that is a prime number. That will make his LVL X attacks all fail.

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

niho+remedy him and his mutt i don't remember what statues effects it puts on him but i'm sure it'll help. Also if you're having trouble with sleep and disable you can get three black belts(for disable) from the seeq at Mt Bur-Omisace and you can get three Nishijin Belt's(for sleep) from the same seeq.

Just equip them when you see the attack coming and bam you'll be immune when it hits then you can swap back to bubble belts if you wish.

re: Mob Hunt - Gilgamesh (possible Spoilers)

the thing i hate about constantly switching back your bubble belt for something else is that as soon as you do, your guys are tossing out potions or using a cure spell. so annoying. >_<
