I'm about to stop using balthier, and start using Ashe, my characters are like level 80 but Ashe's only 13, so going to level her.

Anyway, she only has crap armor at the momenet, will be using Genji Gloves & Masamune, I'm pretty sure Mystic Armor is better for damage as it raises MP, Katana's being based on MP.

I've not really gone for Mystical Armor before, so, where do I get some decent stuff from?

(Fyi: I'm at the end of the storyline, so all merchants accesible)

Nevermind, picked up the White Robes & White Mask from Balfonheim.

Though I'm not sure about this:

Does Faith effect Katana's melee damage?
Does Bravery effect Katana's melee damage?
Does Strength effect Katana's melee damage?

I assume Bravery does, since it increases Attack Power, but I don't know if increasing MP or STR would increase the damage dealt from a Katana.

You'll notice that I have 3 setups for the Strength and Magic Power stat. This is because you have a choice to make. The first setup uses only Heavy Armor, and gives you higher defense and better stat boosts, so you deal more damage and take less damage. The second setup uses Genji armor, which trades one point in Strength for a +93 bonus to Evasion. Since Genji Gear has no Defense, you will take more damage with each attack, but the extremely high evasion means you will be extremely hard to hit, so you will be taking fewer hits. The third setup is for those who want to get as much damage as possible out of their weapon. The Genji Armor still gives +57 to Evasion, so you're still pretty hard to hit, but when combined with the Magepower Shishak, you're getting more damage out of your weapon.

What swk3000 posted seems correct.

Right now, I just got the masumune and the genji gloves equipped onto Ashe. Apparently, the Mystic Armors such as Black/White Robes/Masks don't cut it compared that to the Genji Armor/Helm. The Genji Armor/Helm both contain strength and magic while the black/white gears only have magic enhancements. However, like mentioned above, if you have the Lordly Robes and Circlet, then it'll be better to replace the Genji Armor/Helm.

How about this set up

Grand Armor- Def=61: Str=+12
Circlet- MRes=60: MPwr=+10: Str=+2

That should do you just fine

Is the damage that a katana does based on how much mp you have, or how high your magic power is? Or is it based on speed?

I've been testing out the masamune. I gave it to Ashe and she did fair damage, then to Balthier and he did a LOT more damage and got more combos for some reason, and then I gave it to Penelo, and well that didn't work so well at all. Is it speed, strength, or magic that affects the damage a katana does?

All characters were level 99 and wearing the same equipment, so what the hell is going on here?
