Killer Instinct combo in Tao Feng (?!!)
|
I was reading a review in EGM where it mentioned tao feng had a "similar to KI" combo system. I had played for a while and I had found no relation, However when I got home I tried again. Oh my god! it works! Tao feng HAS a very similar to KI combo system! and its great!
for those of you unfamiliar to KI here is how it works: HK HP |X| LK LP (note:my ascii sucks) Alternate between High(H) attacks and Low(L) attacks, no matter if they are kicks (K) or punches(P) in a rapid sucession, meaning: if you just pressed HK the combo will follow in LK or LP then HK or HP again (up and down in the controller!) go ahead try it! it works well specially on fast characters (jade dragon, fire phoenix)
Now there are some rules to make combos more interesting: You can press the SAME button up to 2 times. (if you press the same button a 3rd time the combo will end) you can also use the button and a direction HK,<-HK is valid per example but it COUNTS as a button press so be careful. In theory you can even use a move with that button (unfortunately chi attacks use another button, maybe they could be used as finishers though! ) Now combos must a start and an end, (otherwise they will go on forever!) check it out:
Combo starter, link and finishers: A combo start is usually a fast but stunning move that leaves the character open for a combo, a Finisher is a strong move that throws the opponent to the floor and finishes the combo. a link is an "extra" attack that allows you to use a starter and therefore link 2 combos in one (I havent tried it though)
You cant start a combo with a finisher (for obvious reasons) and although you can stop a combo in the starter or in the body of it, this will only leave you open for a counter or worse, so always try to use a finisher to stop your combo. up to 9-10 hit "custom" combos are possible (as far as I have seen).
Heres an example of a small "custom" combo fire phoenix: normal stance HK (starter) LK,LK,->HK (finisher) there you go! =) timing is essencial of course. (try HK,LK,LK,Hk,->HK)
Combo breaker! Now the bad part of a nice combo is being on the receiving end of it, in part this is not so bad because combos are constrained to a number of hits (contrary to KI insane 60 hit combos) and you cant link special moves. (as fas as I know) you can also sidestep, dodge, BLOCK the first hits of the combos and/or counter them, (I also suspect you can break combos with L and another button but im not sure) so it is pretty possible to break them. (I would have loved to hear "breaker!")
Well thats about it, go and experiment and let me know your favorite combos Im also still looking info on combo breaking and chi attacks as finishing moves.
So thats it the best trick for Tao Feng you could get!
