Tips for Learning Standard Mode |
|
I've been a pretty good light mode player but I can't do standard more at all. Does anybody have any tips or can recommend some easy songs to help learn stanard. I just want to be better at DDR

What about some songs to practice? I can do like 3 on standard, and I BARELY pass them. But I do think I'm getting better.

Keep your peak at 6-foot songs till you have enough stamina to try the Standard 7 footers (PARANOiA KCET, END OF THE CENTURY, SP-TRIP MACHINE (Jungle Mix)) and use speed modifiers (1.5x, 2x at the most) if you need to. If you ask me, try ending your DDR session with KCET on Standard. It's not too hard, but beware of the ULU, LDL, DRD, RUR 1/8ths 3/4ths into the song.
Busy Child is so NOT a 7 footer on Stanard. =\ And avoid MAXX UNLIMITED Standard till you can do something like 8 footers on Heavy.

Is it still possible to get better and become very good without doing all the "complicated" mathmatical stuff? Meaning like "Doing 1/4 footers and pivoting your foot so that it can reach here and there..".
I get confused when I heard that. I would need pictures to understand how it looks to even pivot your foot. Basically can you just dance however you normally do and get better that way? I'm capable of playing many songs on stadard, and a few on Heavy mode such as "Kind Lady" (non challenge), and still in my heart, Shining Polars, and thats about it.

Josh, take a look at the link I've posted above. I've described the details as easy as possible.

I finally cleared Maxx Unlimited on light mode. It took me MANY tries but I did it. Now the game seems a lot easier. So what I am saying is that light players should practice Maxx Unlimited, if you can do it, moving up to standard is no problem.

Actually, you should've been doing some 6-7 footers on Standard before tackling MAXX UNLIMITED Light.

I tried Secert Revanzation or something on Heavy mode with 1.5 speed..
All I can say is "What the hell?". What direction where those slow arrows pointing in? That was insane.. Plus training mode doesn't seem to help me.. Since the assist and the beat doesn't help me much.. Too complicated to "Keep my feet low, pivot, etc". Don't even understand how to do those things.

Hint: Secret Rendezvous is a shitty song, but if you're going for that, the arrows always follow some part of a song, for EVERY song.. In the case of Secret Rendezvous, the arrows follow the lyrics. You're going to have to force yourself.

Speed mods and other things help learn new songs
Tip 1 try a song with about 150-160 bpm right in the middle not to slow not to fast Secret R. is probably the worst song to practice with Tip 2 switch feet every step so you do not get off balance and its ok to step with your left foot on the right arrow just make sure that your body is in possition to be able to get the next arrow. Donnn't try getting 10 arrows in a row with your right foot (unless their all in the same direction) you'll never make it and then you''ll get off beat. Most songs are very freindly with arrow steps and dont make you do lots of turns and twists, this only happens in hard heavy songs I.E. Exotic Ethnic. Tip 3 like in tip two when you step put your weight on that foot so you can quickly get to the next arrow in time to prepare for teh next few steps. ++Tip 2 may have to be broken sometimes later in the game in order to get all the arrows I.E. heavy Healing Vision Angelic. Tip 4 Don't look down at your feet when you're playing you'll totally mess up you need to get confident where the arrows are so that it becomes 2nd nature and you don't even have to think about where your stepping. Tip 5 don't reset your feet back in the middle of the dance pad leav them on their arrows they just stepped on this is usually the case with standard songs BUT some times you ahve to use your own judgment to wether or not you'll be able to easily get the next set of arrows Tip 6 Don't stomp. you will get very tired very quickly and it requires much more concentration. thats pretty much it for any 4-6 footer song hope this helps

re: Tips for Learning Standard Mode |
quote beehhWhat's up with the "try at x BPM" advice? That's not going to help if the songs are at a vast number of different BPMs (which ARE at different BPMs anyways). DO EVERYTHING. quoteThe "left foot on right arrow" is alright if you're doing crossovers, but alternating feet is the main point. If you're stepping on 1/4th arrows (the steps go as if you're in a 1-2-3-4 march), then you shouldn't step on more than two arrows with the same foot. People will eventually learn how to step and turn themselves eventually. quoteNewbie. Newbie. Newbie. You have so NOT played enough DDR to know there's such steps in Standard mode. Crossovers exist in Standard. quoteI have no idea what you mean. Stepping around on that dance pad is no different than walking. quoteYou might want to put this right AFTER the tip, not 60 minutes later. And like I said, this is called a crossover. quoteThat's one for the beginners. Should've been obvious already or you just can't play the game at all. quoteNo BUTS. Don't go to the middle AT ALL. Start with your feet on the left and right arrows if you have to, but avoid the middle at all times. quoteNo stomping at all. quoteThat's pretty much it for ANY song for that matter.

Well, Reenee does have a point, half of what you said - I tried my absolute hardest to comprehend, but couldn't. Your tips were helpful but were kind of hard to understand, with bad grammar to boot. >.O I am betting a more experienced player - i.e reenee came along to set the bar straight and just clear things up.
Personally, when I started I had to set the bar pretty high. As you will hear quite a bit, you just have to throw yourself into a song, and, in time will begin to progress from the stage you are at now. I hopped around this mix.. I went from standard, to heavy, straight back to the basics, and repeated. As for the song levels I would try to stay in (as previously mentioned) between the four-six footers. For songs - I guess it really comes down to skill, wit, and shear liking of that particular song, beware those tricky 1/4 and 1/8 songs that usually appear throughout most standard songs, (go figure!) quoteThat's harsh, don't try to be a total b4d4zz in front of the rookie, one cannot just pick up the skill instantly when it comes to ANY games created by bemani. *Begins to drift back slowly into the shadows from whence he crept* This message was edited by jirachi on Aug 31 2004. ------------------- Don't forget to sign my guestbook
